The better fighter may generally win, but the generics of that generalization is exactly the sort of argument I was referring to. Particularly when you consider that the strengths of Margarito match up with the weaknesses of Cotto like the last two pieces in a puzzle. You have to overlook the obvious to come up with a Cotto win. It is unlikely that he will be able to beat Margarito in actuality - the business of sports gambling or fan bandwagons aside. Cotto is a star and a percieved juggernaut, I think that's why people are picking him. I guess we'll find out if he's really a juggernaut.
Alot of people get caught up in the win streaks. Kinda like when Trinidad ran into Hopkins. Even I was at fault there. I never saw the obvious which was Trinidad way out of his element with a bigger and much rougher opponent. Same could be said of Sanders/W.Klitschko. If you really watch both guys leading up to that point you will come to the rational conclusion that Sanders wins most of the time. It was just that Waldo was on a long win streak and nobody saw Sanders bringing his very best effort. Had Margarito not dropped that decision to Paul Williams the line on this would be dead even. Of that I am sure. But because of that loss alot of people will be thinking Cotto is on another level, which they do. Come fight time I expect a few people to be surprised.
Please note that, to what I believe would be a majority here, this whole body of argument going for Margarito - the long detailed analysis confining to verbiage and whatnot - sounds a lot like an exercise in wishful thinking coming from insecure fans who need to reassure themselves. The better boxer shall win, generally that's how things work in the real world. Cotto will left hook the ribcage out of Margarito's flesh and skin, mark my words.
I'll take that truism over any of the margophiliac antics that's being professed here like the Gospel Truth. :deal.............
All I know is that Cotto cant afford to make as many mistakes as MArgo. ON paper and logic tells you Cotto has an edge but his boxing stance is made for a rangy upper cutter...MARGARito. All I say is that going to the body as often as ol boy does is asking for an uppercut. just my two cents. I got margarito, too tough and too physical and not ring rusty which has acounted for some of his bad performances.
Nice list of counterexamples there. Now shall I post one that illustrates the opposite point of view? Do you have, like, three weeks worth of reading to spare?
If he was in the birdhouse with you he would. What with being a "top scientist" and all. The truth is out there! :hooters
Do you honestly think that? Insecure fans reassuring themselves? Or are you just talking out of your ass, again?
I'm sure you will be watching the fight and I'm sure our paths will cross again thereafter. Good luck. :hi:
