    Winky says on twitter

"It was fun while it lasted".

"I did what I set out to do and that was to be great. Part of being a good boxer is knowing when to call it quits.

"If I can't be the champion again there's no need to keep boxing.

"But I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for always supporting me and I'll still be ringside at all the fights!"

Winky was a great fighter, avoided by many, and hopefully one day makes it into the hall of fame. However it is good he realizes, that now is the right time to go because he knows he cant pull the trigger anymore, hopefully other greats like Roy Jones, Shane Mosley, James Toney etc can follow suit and hang it up and not ruin their health and legacy by trying to recreate past glories

Its been a great pleasure to enjoy his career throughout the years, specially when he was utterly dominating the 154lbs division.

He used to post here for a bit, with his wonderful wife.

I wish you nothing but the best Winky, I am sure you don't need boxing to maintain a healthy, joyful life.

Smart move, he cannot compete at all with the top fighters at 154 or 160, I thought he was humble in defeat unlike Tarvers dilusions, and he accepted his loss like a man. Good way to go out. He wasn't embarrassed in that fight, he had his moments, but if was obvious father time had caught up to him, and good for him for realizing it.

of course I am serious, the man was out of the ring for over 3 years and the fight before that was the same scenario, a comeback no tune ups after nearly 2 years out

if he wants to fight he shouldve done it the right was and honed his skills ,

Best of luck to him. I feel he never got enough praise for beating who he beat at light-middle in such an easy fashion.

Awesome, it's always nice too see when once great fighters realize their time has passed before they try and carry on holding onto past glory, and risking serious injury. Winky never really ever took any power shots flush he's one of the lucky ones that probably hasn't suffered any brain damage. Hopefully the boxing writers vote him into The Hall, there aren't many from his era more deserving.

Hey Kids, if you don't like the results... just quit. ~Winky

Never liked this ***** and his boring ass style of fighting. I wish he retired in 2001

Great fighter, boring as hell to watch, but there's no denying his skills.
