If he couldn't even at least knock down chinny fighters like Trinidad and Williams, with the way he was landing cleanly on them its safe to say he was pillow fisted

    Lighty: "Winky Wants Margarito Now"

    By Rick Reeno

Chris Lighty, CEO of Winky Promotions, confirmed to ***********.com that the offer of $1.5 million dollars that was made to Bob Arum, head of Top Rank Promotions, for a super-fight between Top Rank fighter Antonio Margarito and Ronald "Winky" Wright is sitting on the table for Arum to take.

"I tried calling him (Arum) yesterday with the offer and he said he was busy and for me to call him back tomorrow. We have been trying to reach him all day to put this (fight) together. From what I hear Margarito has one more fight with Arum, so I know he wants to put him in the ring with a big opponent. I don't know what's going through his head. I think maybe there are just looking at what options are out there for Margarito," Lighty said.

Last week, Bob Arum made a $4 million dollar offer to Winky Wright for a bout with Antonio Margarito in October, Wright turned the offer down for financial reasons. The main issue had to do with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. being offered double the money for the October date. Due to the $8 million dollar offer made to Mayweather, Wright felt that he should have been offered more money, something that Lighty confirms.

"Originally we wanted more money, but we wanted to see what was going to happen with Jermain Taylor. Now that Taylor is taking another fight, we want to take another fight and then meet Taylor. Margarito would be happy to fight Winky Wright for $1.5 million, he would be happy to fight him for $1 million."

The recent announcement of Winky Wright joining forces with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions was seen by many as a possible roadblock towards making a fight between Wright and Margarito, because of the animosity between Bob Arum and Oscar De La Hoya. Lighty confirms that Arum does not have to deal with De La Hoya, and the fight could be made with him directly.

"He doesn't even have to deal with De La Hoya. If I want to I could do it myself. I have the money. We will gamble on ourselves and give Margarito the $1.5 million to make the fight happen. Margarito wants "

The next couple of weeks will be interesting as Antonio Margarito is still without a dance partner for his scheduled fight in October, and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is without an opponent for his pay-per-view bout scheduled for November. Lighty stated that Winky Wright is ready and willing to face either of the two fighters.

LOS ANGELES, July 28 – In recent weeks, there has been a hearty dose of bluster from the camp of WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito, claiming that he is the ‘most feared fighter in boxing’, and that no one is willing to fight him.

Golden Boy Promotions has the solution to Mr. Margarito’s problem in securing an opponent for a fight this year – in fact, it has three solutions in pound for pound superstar Winky Wright, former junior middleweight champion Kassim Ouma, and rising star Ishe Smith, all of whom are willing to battle Margarito at a moment’s notice.

'I respect Antonio Margarito as a fighter, but his claims that no one wants to fight him are baseless,' said Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya. 'We already offered Margarito’s promoter, Top Rank, a fight against Winky Wright, but they declined, saying that Margarito was not a middleweight. Well, we never discussed this fight as being at middleweight. Winky is more than willing to come down to 154 pounds for this fight, and given the fact that Margarito has fought at junior middleweight before and has called out other junior middleweights like Shane Mosley, Cory Spinks, and myself, I don’t see why this fight can’t be made.'

'And just in case Margarito doesn’t want to challenge himself against Winky Wright,' continues De La Hoya, 'we have two more warriors who are eager to test themselves against him – Kassim Ouma and Ishe Smith, both of whom can fight at 147 pounds.'

The ball is in your court, Antonio.

Doesn't change the fact that Winky wanted Margarito and would've EASILY beaten him.

Same ole story with Winky which makes me have utter disdain for Winky who was once one of my favorites as a child, 4 million would have probably been one of his highest paydays, even though he was dominate he was boring and never a draw, he did **** but call out smaller big named fighters, and then when they responded he made sure to price himself out, then cry boo hoo

He did do this, he thought he was worth more and turned down 6million against Delahoya asking for more. But he did have Trinidad, Mosleyx2, Vargas and Taylor fights under his belt and he should have been undisputed MW Champ. He wasn't a superstar but he was P4P

1.5m would be career high money for Margarito too.

Marg probably would have taken it but Arum wanted to keep it in house.

Winky didn't have the skill to outboxing people off his back foot like Cotto, he always was a fighter who kept his foot planted on the ground, with the high guard up while he walked his opponents, and used his superb skills of cutting the ring off, to jab his opponent into submission

Sam Soliman and Paul Williams are legit guys who faired better above 147. Soloman is a legit middleweight with a resume. Margarito at lightmiddle is like 1 and 5 and he only got off on being bigger and outworking little guys along with his plaster.

:good Ask Shane Mosley if Margarito punches harder than Wright. Oh I forgot, 1. Margarito was unable to even hit Shane. 2. Marg was without his secret weapon.
