I think Winky would win about 9 or 10 rounds on the way to a UD. An old Oscar was giving PBF trouble and knocking him off balance with a conventional jab whilst he was sticking it. Winky's stronger jab will dominate the fight and even though he will miss a lot of punches, he will do a lot more damage than Floyd will with his punches. Floyd will be knocked off balance consistently becuase of Wright's strong jab, and if Floyd couldn't have much impact on DLH with DLH's high guard, how in the hell is he going to make a difference to Wright's turtle D?
Will be something about a 34 year old DLH being faster than a prime Wrinky Wright and that even though Wright will do better than DLH, DLH only won 2 or 3 rounds, so he'll give Wright the privilege of winning about 4 or 5.
I voted draw, we haven't seen enough of Floyd at 147-154 to accurately judge and we don't know what Floyd's limit is in how far he can go. Floyd is more skilled, better footwork, defense, faster, more athletic. Winky is simply bigger, stronger, rangier, high workrate and a tight D. However its not implausable that FMJ would be able to potshot and 'run' or roll and counter Winky. Yes a 34yo Delahoya was better at some things than Winky, more aggressive, bigger puncher and faster. Winky was a slightly better boxer. Lets also not forget Winky's signature win (Mosley) was coming off a Delahoya win that most had DLH winning (I scored it once either way), DLH beat Vargas and was coming off a dominant win over Mayorga who years later came close to beating Mosley, lets also not forget Mosley arguably won the rematch, well I thought so at the time and it was an MD. I fancy Mayweather to take a tough close 'boring' 7-5 UD that I'd find fascinating to watch. I'd also expect Winky to throw more and Mayweather to land cleaner better shots making it a controversal fight
I'll also add its a shame Winky wasn't in more big fights but that is his own fault. Turned $4m down against DLH, turned 50-50 down against Taylor, turned 30-70 down against Mayweather, had a chance to face Calzaghe
Winky would win by UD in my opinion, say 8-4, a brilliant southpaw jab is the worst thing floyd can face, espicially with his height and reach advantage making it very difficlt for floyd to use his straight right as a weapon to take wright jab away. Floyd was by far and away at his best at 130 so nothing to be ashamed of that someone as good as winky would beat him at 154
Winky wins 8-10 rounds rather easily. Not a fair fight, IMO, Winky's best weight is 154 and Floyd's best prime weight is probably 140. Floyd doesn't have the workrate or power to trouble Wright and would be hit very regularly with stiff jabs.
Winky shuts him out. Southpaw stance gives that shoulder roll defense fits, Floyd has never looked good against southpaws. Meanwhile Winky is tall and lanky with a good reach and an even better jab. This would be a bad fight for Floyd. He would have to change his style to even stand a chance IMO.
Considering a shot De La Hoya gave Floyd fits with his jab in the first 5 rounds of their fight, how do people possibly expect Mayweather to beat a prime Winky Wright at 154 pounds? A guy with an even better jab (although Oscar's is great in his prime) and a tighter defense.
I think if it had been a prime version of Wright that Floyd fought instead of a faded ODLH, good chance he'd lose. I'd pick him to lose, even. But that's not to say Floyd couldn't pull it off either. But the size and the style, I think it'd be very difficult for Floyd to get over the hesitance of fighting at that weight against a natural 154-pounder, be able to figure out the correct strategy and carry it off in time to get a points win, which is the only kind he'd get. But Floyd has such a high ring IQ, I wouldn't say he couldn't.
Winky and wide. Winky´s combination of size and strength advantage, his great jab, very good defence, very high workrate, pressure and southpaw stance will trouble Maywaether big time. He wins one or two rounds perhaps but he will get dominated.
What slick boxer has Winky beaten? Hes great against fighters who stand right in front of him or come right at him, but any world class fighter that showed him any type of lateral movement gave him problems. That flat footed shuffling forward style would be very difficult against a style like Floyds. Wright doesnt punch very hard either. I know theres a lot of hate for Mayweather and Im not trying to be a Floyd nuthugger, but lets be realistic people. How in the hell is Winky going to get his jab pumping when Floyd is boxing in circles? Guys like Trinidad and Mosley who came right at him got pummeled, but guys like Vargas, Taylor, and Hopkins that gave him just a little lateral movement gave him some fits. **** even Bronco Mckart had some success against Wright. The size factor wouldnt be as big of a deal as you think in this one.
