Winky Wright vs Floyd Mayweather, who takes it?

Read that Wright slipped a lot while taking punches. He was never down again after that until the Quillen fight if I'm correct. Long time without getting put down.

 

The way Wright would stalk him, it wouldn't be boring.

 

I think it's funny people say Floyd beats him. Winky is a full fledged, 154 guy. Hard jab, doesn't get hit clean at all, can take a punch, has very good stamina.

This is a nightmare matchup for Floyd.

 

Wright would beat Floyd. I've always thought the type of fighters that would give Floyd problems are the BIG WW's and Jr MW's who have a jab and a tight D. But Winky is much bigger than Floyd.. So that isn't really saying much about Winky.. Other than he's bigger and is skilled enough to use his size to his advantage

 

Someone with a brain. Floyd has nothing to keep Wright off him and Wright can use his freakishly long arms and elbows to block all incoming shots. He would walk forward, use his jab and overpower Floyd.

 

Agreed, he was very avoided, then badly self-managed. He should've been a much bigger star. The Hopkins fight was just bull****.

 

Yep! That Vasquez fellow was like an unstoppable tank! Argentina has the knack of producing good boxers that's for sure.

Well, we can safely assume that he isn't blind-right? So one tends to suppose that he wants that fighter to get seriously injured or killed for personal reasons which have nothing to do with boxing. That's the impression that the ref during the Ali Holmes fight and the ref during the Duran vs Davy Moor fight conveyed as well.

Humans in positions where they can physically harm other humans, such as surgeons, dentists, chiropractors, xray technicians, etc will sometimes be tempted to do so for personal reasons involving prejudice, racism, sadistic tendencies or just plain personal dislike of the individual. That's one reason why mal-practice cases come up. I don't see why a ref should not be held as equally accountable.

 

The question is why a ref who blatantly ignores a fighter' safety isn't held professionally accountable for it. After all, a ref is there to protect by assuring adherence to rules.

As the ref in the Pac vs horn fight Horn said to Horn when he notice danger of serious injury:

"I am here to protect you!"

 

He turned down 5 million for a a rematch with Taylor, for the title, and didn't even make that amount for his next 3 fights that all ended up being losses.

I'm not sure it was bad management as much as it was just bad judgment. Wright was very stubborn. But hey, 11-3-1 record in title fights, 2 time champ at 154, with the second being undisputed, 51-3 going into the Taylor fight and winding up 51-6-1, not a bad career by any stretch. Winning at 160 would have been the cherry on top. Sadly, he let his ego ruin that one. Still going to the HOF, no doubt. He could have ruled 160 for a little bit if he just shut up and fought.

Anybody much bigger than Floyd should beat Floyd if they have the requisite skill. REALLY good big men will always beat a great little man. Always.

 

This. As much as I like Floyd Winky would be all wrong for Floyd. Floyd at 154 was very selective with his opponents for good reason.
