Brewer is a journeyman level spoiler extraordinaire. He is the definition of a very live and game super underdog. His resume includes wins over Steve Forbes and Cornelius Bundrage. Winky Wright is also a spoiler, but at a far higher level than Brewer. Winky has spent his career successfully interfering with the plans and ambitions of flashier, higher-profile, more popular boxers. Wright's greatest wins have always come when he is the underdog, same with Brewer. It's spoiler versus spoiler in this one.:patsch

I hadn't thought of the spoiler vs spoiler aspect, but that's a good way to look at this. I've seen about 10 of Brewer's fights, and he beats guys by being smarter than they are. Against Winky at 160 his tactics won't work.

Another aspect of this fight is; whose legs are the most shot? If Brewer can keep moving all night, he can use his blister and move tactics to stay in the fight. He won't win, but he can give Winky a nice work out.

But this will be a good payday for brewer and a fight that he can win

winky is useing this fight as a tune he then wants strum for big money. Also winky has struggled before in these type of fights, i hope he takes brewer more serious than angel hernadez and sam soliman both times winky nearly slipped up and looked poor geting the win

Brewer is the story of what might have been. If he had turned pro at a much younger age, and had good management, he would have no doubt been a respectble title holder at 147.

Brewer had minimal amatuer experience, and didn't turn pro until he was 28 years old. He won like 7 Tough Man competitions before he decided to give real pro boxing a shot.

Is Winky's goal to edge closer to the 50% KO ratio mark before hanging up the gloves? If so, he's on the right track taking guys like Brewer.

How is sturm looking these days? I havent seen him in a long time.

I imagine they could make a winky sturm fight in germany and still do well right away with no other tune ups for anybody.

The only reason I see Winky wanting this fight is to get a win to get better negotiation leverage with Sturm. I mean it will be all the euro fans putting up the money so sturm could want to keep most of it.

I'd actually really like to see Wright vs. Sturm. If that's what he's working toward I can forgive a Brewer warm-up.

I think this will proved if Wright is a done fighter or not. If Wright easily beat Brewer without any problems then Williams beat a past his prime but still a very good fighter in Wright but if Wright barely got Brewer then it proved Wright is a done fighter.

Brewer loses from taking fights on short notice; KP on 2 weeks notice; JT on 5 weeks notice, et; or he loses from getting cracked hard by heavy hitters.

Winky is not a heavy hitter, nor was this made on short notice. I don't give Brewer a snow balls chance in hell, but don't be surprised if he gives Winky a good nights work.

Yeesh, people make it sound like Wright is toast. Not that long ago he hung tough with a top 5 P4P fighter 10 pounds over his natural weight. PW made him look like crap, but PW has made most people look like crap. Winky still probably cleans out the division other than Williams and Pavlik. And it's not as if he's punch drunk or something.

See thats why i said that this fight will proved if Wright is a done fighter or not. Sure Brewer is a good solid fighter but he ain't even close to the level like Wright.

Funny thing is. . .even after the PW loss, I think Winky's stock was still high enough for him to immediately go after someone like Sturm. Why he chose Brewer who is zero reward, unacceptably high risk, beats me. And yes, Brewer is a smart fighter, but Brewer is the kind of guy prospects face in order to see if they are contenders or pretenders, he is not the kind of guy an established, great fighter like Winky would want to risk a fight with.

Clearly, Winky would likely beat Brewer 4 nights out of 5. . .but theres that 1 in 5 where the stars and planets might just align in Brewer's favor.
