If these 2 fought at a catch weight of 165, who would you pick. I think Winky would of won the fight. I think his jab and defense would of paved the way. Calzaghe has the high work rate and fast hands(mosley did too, but it still didn't work in his favor) but winky also does too, as show in the quartey fight, when he had to let those hands go. What do you guys think?

Any thoughts, of who would won this fight if both were at their best. Let's say the Calzaghe from the Lacy fight and the Winky from the Trinidad fight.

Calzaghe on points. Winky's just above his optimal weight and would he noticeably ineffective. Even at 160, i don't think he's as a force. I mean he's really good but just not what he was at 154. And 165 is 11 lbs over that weight.

Well I think 170 was a limit for him and I think thats why Hopkins fought him a catch weight. I don't see why 165 would be too much when he fought great at 160.

People also forget that Winky is a big Junior middleweight and walks around at 185. So he ain't small guy like De La Hoya or Mosley. He backed Tayler up the whole fight and Tayler was a biggier man.

Winky had man boobs at 170. Even at 160, i thought it took away his foot speed. He was stationary at 160. At 154, he had the foot speed to move in and out of spots which made him almost impossible to beat given his incredible defense and piston jab. I still think it's just way above his ideal weight.

Soliman gave Winky hell with not much more than a good workrate and a decent gas tank.

Winkys style is good against smaller guys (Mosely, Trini) but its gruelling to absorb all those punches on the guard against bigger guys.

Winkys guard is good for straight punches, Calzaghe slaps are looping with different angles and with Calzaghe workrate Winky would look like a pulp after a few rounds.

But straight punches down the middle are the best way to tame Joe because he leaves himself open when coming forward to let his hands go. And straight punching and a jab beats fast looping punches and we all know winky has that. On placent skills I'd take him over Calzaghe.
