For me, WInky's four wins over Tito/Mosley surpass Joe's best wins.

H2H Joe would win on PTS. Winky was no good above 160 IMO

Winky of course. IMO but beating Sugar Shane twice is better than anything Calzaghe has done.

By the way I travelled to see Calzaghe beat Kessler, so I'm no hater.

If I think about it, Winky would prbably be 80-90 in my P4P ATG list, Calzaghe just about scraping the top 100.

    Only my opinion though.

You're the one that stated Jones & Hopkins were better than anyone Winky ever faced - "not prime at all", in Jones' case in particular, is the understatement of the year.

That's what makes it a good question: Winky fought higher competition but also has the losses to show for it (complete with a disputed one and a draw). There's more to it than just "Cal didn't lose" - just as you say a contender losing to good comp doesn't make him a great fighter, beating mediocre comp doesn't either.

Winky didn't lose to them all, Joe's comp has more questions. A good question.

beating a welterweight while you ply your trade as a MW far surpasses anything the welsh lads done.....

lol? I expect this kinda talk from people in my locality, my county, my nation or hell my country (UK)... but not from a stateside boxing fan.

    :thumbsup

    I Agree

    Thank you.

yes. Though, even at 160... it wasn't his best weight when he could make 154 without too much trouble. He's like Hatton in the way he puts on weight through unhealthy eating. Difference is, his height means that his BMI doesn't almost hit 30!

It was a genuine 154-lb'er... against p4p t3 fighter at the time... who happened to be A BIG welterweight... who had fought many times before & after at 154!

And again, Winky's a chess-player... not a bully or pressure-fighter who will use his strength/size to beat you... naw, he'll just eat your best shots on his gloves & pick you off!

Mosley is a big Welter, and fought higher aswell.

Hopkins fought a MW most of his career didnt he?

Robin Reid, Richie Woodhall, Charles Brewer and Byron Mitchell were all decent wins for Calzaghe

While the mosely wins were great for Winky, i just fail to see how Ensley Bingham & Bronco McKart etc are better than the above defences. While ppl condemn calzaghe saying hopkins and jones were shot (i'd have to agree with jones) Trinidad and quartey werent exactly at their prime and a weight they could perform, plus in my opinion taylor as a fighter in comparable to kessler, plus calz beat hopkins albeit very close, winky didnt come close, plus i cant see calzaghe ever been battered by anybody like winky was against williams.
