Martinez's movement and greater sharpness at this stage would be far too much for Winky Wright, who hasn't won a fight in about 36 years.
Prime vs. prime probably Winky by decision if accurate and fair scoring. In reality Martinez was flashier and kind of a matinee idol so Martinez by decision would be the probable result.
Prime for prime I give Martinez a very good chance of beating Winky. His speed and footwork would be the key.
The thing is Wright never did himself any favours in alot of his close fights he gave away the 12th round vs Taylor and Vargas won the championship rounds vs him.
Prime Martinez was a mega talent. From 08-11 he was truly a force to be reckoned with but he was such a late starter it was never going to last. He was like 34 when he burst on the scene against Bunema so he had his work cut out for him. But those victories against Pavlik and Williams were truly sensational. Do I pick him over Winky though? It's tough for me that, I was a big believer in Martinez, but Winky has that jab and that forward pressure and that style when applied correctly can neutralise pretty much any other style, and Winky really did apply it correctly.
