Winky Wright vs. Sugar Ray Leonard

Very different matchup indeed.

Im inclined to go SRL tho, only because of how he fought against Hearns and Benitez. Winky has a phenominal jab (so does Tommy....) and tremendous defense (so does Wilfredo...tho a different style of...).

I see Leonard able to use his speed and accuracy to get past his jab (tho it WOULD land) and through his guard enough to win a close UD. And in close UDs...noone is better (luckier) than Sugar...and there AINT many worse (unluckier) than Winky.

 

True...about the workrate thing.

Winky is KNOWN for his tremendous workrate (normally throws between 800-1000 punches a fight)...but Bernard was able to pretty much cut his output in half with his superior movement and footwork (only threw 400 vs Hopkins). SRL had great footwork...tho wasnt the counterpuncher or inside fighter Hopkins is...which were the other major reasons why his output dropped...so...who knows???

But, I dont feel it would be as wide as you would think...Hearns jab bothered Ray in both fights...and Winky has one hell of a jab.

I still go with Sugar tho.

 

Not even close. Hand + foot speed winning it for SRL.

 

Leonard. He'd keep Winky in his defence all night much like Mayweather Sr. and just outwork him.

 

SRL lands two punches all night.. The crowd roars, Lampley notes how SRL's jab cant seem to miss its mark, and how well winky's face is holding up against the huge damage.

SRL wins wide U.D. even though Wright out lands him 3 to 1.

 

I would like to pick SRL due to his prominence and greatness but Winky seems to be all wrong for him. It is not far-fetched that this fight would turnout like Winky-Mosley 2..

 

good matchup and again i would love to choose winky but i cant see him outpointing or knocking out srl. srl ud

 

Contrary to popular belief, Mosley is no Sugar.

 

Winky Wright would make things awkward and uncomfortable for Ray Leonard. However, Ray's speed, power, and accuracy would give Winky fits, as well.

I see this as a close fight with Ray pulling it out in the last few rounds. Ray definitely wins if it goes 15, as Winky has not been there before. 12 round fight should still go to Ray, but Winky's awkward style makes it closer than a lot of people think.

 

this is a no brainer, SRL.

 

For me, Mosley is just as fast, powerful and has equally great chin and stamina as SRL. The big difference being that SRL is a great technician.

At any rate, Winky gave Mosley some rounds in their rematch and that was the only reason the fight was closer than the 1st.

 

I assume this is meant as some sort of joke thread.

 

Why a joke?

Winky has shown he is able to match it with great fighters.
And his style is hard for anyone, of any era.

That being said SRL just would negate all the awkwardness with his speed and technical ability. And cut down Winky's workrate like Nard did.
The Winky right jab wouldnt have the same impact hear.
