fighter of this era. People talk about De La Hoya's meltdowns at the end of fights, but what about Wright? He had the fight in the bag against Jermain Taylor but coasted in the 12th. Although Taylor didn't do much that round either, Winky could have got the victory if he threw 30 punches that round easily. Vasquez almost knocked him through the canvas in the 12th when Wright first fought for the 154 pound strap. Vasquez was beaten by a past his prime Pernell Whitaker shortly thereafter. Wright was good for 8 rounds against Bernard Hopkins but did nothing past that round and was outworked by 40+ year old man. Paul Williams whitewashed the guy. His best wins were against Shane Mosley at 154 and Trinidad at 160. Both guys were exposed before they fought Winky anyway(Trinidad by Hopkins and Shane by the Balco scandal, Forrest, etc). Bronco McKart is easily a top 5 win for him.. Jeez!

Winky Wright may be the most UNDER-RATED fighter of this era.
The man is a H2H nightmare for any Junior Middleweight in history.
The only man Oscar De La Hoya avoided in his career, and with good reason.

Big George, look at the last round of that fight. Who was getting beat to the punch. Pick up a book, watch hundreds of fights, then maybe you'll know something about boxing. Vargas landed the most punches by the way in that fight and was much younger than Wright.

Most overrated fighter? lmfao. You cant be overrated by easily beating Mosley in the first fight and win in a shut out vs Trinidad at Wright first weight at 160 pounds. The Vasquez fight happen in 94 for goodness sake in which wright wasnt even close to his peak. Alot of ppl thought Wright beat Vargas and Taylor. The Hopkins fight happen when Wright had to move up 2 weight class in which Wright was not only the smaller fighter but was clearly out of shape.

Btw vs Williams? Wright was coming off to the close of 2 year layoff and was way past his prime.

Oscar didnt really avoided Wright. Before Oscar signed to fight Mayorga, Oscar offer Wright 6 million dollars plus ppv bonus if the ppv is a success. But Wright refuse saying if other fighters got 10 million then he should get it too in which shows he over price himself.
