The winner would be the man at 147 as both have the better resume at 147 than PBF, and both are interested in fighting the best. PBF is only interested in money, which hurts the sport. Money fights only make PBF richer not better.
yeah... If Cotto beats Margarito is has the best resume at 147lbs. If Margarito wins than he has a case but I'm not too sure since he lost to PW.
the true fans know that this summers match is for thed real WW championship not a fradulent championship that was won beating a guy with 9 losses,,what other top 10 ww has fraud fought besides judah, guys with 9 losses against unknown scrubs dont count
Losses happen when you are willing to fight all comers and on foreign soil. A true shame this gets lost on boxing fans of the modern day. :-(
When you're the legit champion of the division and hold the linear title ... along w/ the ring & an alphabet belt ... there's no dispute to who's the man no matter who has the better resume. This guy is champion because he beat the champion -- Juan Diaz might have a better resume at LW than Joel Casamayor ... or Nate Campbell may hold the majority of the belts ... but just on the fact that Casamayor beat the champion of the division (the late Deigo Corrales) that means that he's the champ ... no matter who beats who or what belts are thrown around. Thats the same with Floyd as long as he's holding those titles he's the champ ... not the man, but the champ. Thats all that matters ... not who has the better resume ... or who beat who ... thats title is all that matters. And when you take a look back at it ... Margarito or Cotto's opposition doesn't have any lineage to the title ... only Baldomir did !!
Margarito under performed against PW, That was a fight he should have won but he totally was inaccurate in measuring the rounds he had to win and well it cost him the fight. Either way, Cotto and Margarito are making a claim no matter what.
That guy with 9 losses also beat the then undisputed champion in Zab Judah who at the time only had 2 L's on his resume -- (both coming from undisputed world champions) No matter what you say about Baldomir - he did the unexpected ... he beat the world champion. Floyd stepped up to the plate and fought him ... no one else thats fighting this summer ... Floyd. You can't discredit Baldomir (who at the time hadn't lost in 7 yrs) for beating the then champion. How does Cotto get credit for having beaten Zab, but Baldomir doesn't. Records don't matter ... when you have that championship and that title of being the one and only champion of the division ... thats all that matters. You seem like the type of person that would discredit a fighter anyway they can ... records didn't matter when Baldomir pulled the upset of the year. No one was talking that **** when he was the champion, but because he loses to PBF -- he's all of a sudden the worst fighter in boxing history. This guy accomplished something that most great fighters -- in fact all fighters only can dream about and thats gaining a legit, universally recognize, undisputed championship. To my knowledge ... neither Cotto or Margarito has achieved that at any point in there careers and probably never will. Fighter for a vacant belt means nothing compared to beating a reigning champion for his title. You along with others on this thread have alot to learn about boxing !! :good
Bro honestly, who gives a **** about the belt that Floyd got 2 years ago against Baldomir. Alright we get it already Floyd has "The Belts". But he doesn't have "The Respect" @ 147lbs. That will belong to Miguel Cotto if he takes care of Margarito. If Floyd fights Hatton after DLH, then Cotto will fight the winner of Quintana/Williams. Cotto would then have just about every top 10 147lber under his Win column and no body is going to give 2 ****ing cents about what Floyd's got at 147lbs. Let Floyd "Be the man" at 147lbs it ultimately doesn't mean ****.
I don't even think he underperformed apart from just starting too late. He planned on knocking Paul out and honestly after seeing Margarito land flush and Quintana land flush, I feel it's safe to say Paul takes a helluva shot. Granted, he's a middleweight fighting at welter. But still. Margarito should have just went punch for punch. He probably would have won but despite that some ringside observers felt he did win and felt his punches were the much harder punches and Paul was ready to go down the stretch. Nobody just runs from Margarito. Both guys who have beaten him recently (Santos at 154 and Paul at 147) took serious punishment to pull out those victories. I'm not saying Cotto can't win here. He can. But this nonsense about how he's gonna float like a butterfly and sting like a bee is just wrong. He needs to set his feet before he is gonna hurt a guy like Margarito. Now he may not want to hurt him at all and just score points, but that may still leave the door open for a very late, fresh Tony Margarito and that looping right hand is never out of the picture for long.
So I guess Margarito also underperformed against Clottey who outboxed him bad until he injured his hand. Underperforming appears to repeat in Margarito's case or is it just that he performs that way?
i dont have a problem if FRAUD had an obsession with getting a green wbc belt, but he at least could have fought other top ww's after baldomir to make that belt look more rspectable so what are u saying is that b/c FRAUD got the belt from a journeymen who fought somebody that didnt train and got lucky desdpite the fact of him having 9 losse against 9 scrubs, so based on what you say FRAUD doesnt have to fight naybody else in ww b/c he beat baldomir who was a champ but never respected as the real champ and FRAUD is not being respected as a real champ either
Who give a **** about respect? ... this mans legacy is secure and he's accomplish more than most could dream of ... *He fought a 154 pounder in DLH - beat him for his 154 pound title *He fought the linear 140 pound champion and former WBA WW champion in Ricky Hatton (also #1 ranked by WBC and top 5 WW at the time) *He fought the former undisputed champion Zab Judah (reigning IBF champion) Include the universally recognized undisputed champion - Baldomir and you have a great resume for you last 4 fights ... You win the WW title ... then you fight for a SWW title immediately afterward, then you fight an undefeated lineal 140 pounder/ former WW champion. How is that not a stellar resume? You need to quit hatin ... Floyd being the man doesn't mean **** to you, but you're not a member of the USBWA ... you're not a fighter ... and you're not a trainer ... you're just a fan ... you're opinion matters as much as his butler's does !! Don't get it twisted ... your knowledge in boxing isn't far superior than that of his peers. Floyd has alot of respect in the boxing community and has put a stamp on his legacy ... he's set - no matter what anyone thinks.
Hey man ... the journeyman had a ****in legit title ... it wasn't an alphabet belt ... it was the whole thing ... and if he had a bigger purse we wouldn't be debating about this ****. What does it matter who he was ... I don't give a **** if it was a cab driver from NYC ... if he beat the undisputed champion ... then he deserves some kinda credit in my book. And if i'm not mistaken ... Baldomir hadn't lost for 7yrs ... Ricky Hatton was a top #5 WW (ring Magazine ranking) and was the #1 contender by the WBC !! There's one for you ... and in between time he fought for a SWW championship ... He can have one defense a year and isn't mandated to fight anyone ... so keep hating ... i'm sure he's feeding off your negative energy -
not true HATTON was never a top 5 WW after collazo almost KTFO of him and sent his ass with his tail between his legs back down to 140 were he fought urango and castillo so you tell me b/c he beat a faded version of castillo that almost got beat by Ngoujo and fought him at 140 he automatically converts himself into a top 5 WW:nono :nono :nono hatton was not and will nevr be a top 10 WW he gets KTFO by all top 10 WW except williams he is a bum at 147 and FRAUDS 147 resume gets NO CREDIT 4 A HATTON win :nono :nono :nono
