Rees would have a chance, although he'd be a pretty big underdog at the moment. Even if he KO's Mathews he'd still be a big underdog.

The only way I see Derry winning is by a freak punch/cut/decision. Should never be in the ring with Burns really.

I think the only way Burns-Rees would happen (bear in mind Billy has been in Rees' corner as well) is if Rees managed to pick up the WBA soonish and they had a unification. Not that far-fetched IMO.

It'll be yet another **** weak fight for Burns I'm sure.

Realistically these fights are what makes brits stepping up to fight someone outside of these shores fail. Good fights, but hardly preperation for fighting other belt holder/fringe champs. I like ricky, but i want to see him in with someone live.

Unlikly to happen as Mathews and Rees are matchroom boxers and Burns is with ******.

****** will offer them the fight for penuts like he did last time to Gavin Rees.

Huge backwards step for Burns so would imagine this is a pile of poo!

I can somewhat understand why people would consider Mathews a backwards step, but you can't really say the same for Rees, he won a world title at Light-Welter and has only lost the once to Andriy Kotelnik who's not a bad fighter at all.

Although if Mathews beats Rees then it puts him right up there in Britain.

it was about 5 years ago Rees won a world title, he has done well to come back again but dont see him troubling Burns.

When is Burns going to step up and fight a top guy at 135?

He has , Katsidis , its just a shame that fight hasn't been followed up with one of the marque names in the division , that said , Mitchell is an interesting fight by and large

Just my opinion, i dont think Burns will be able to beat him. Would be a good fight though love to see it happen.

He beat Katsidis and an ex world champion in Moses better than most other Lightweights.

Fair enough saying he wouldn't win that's your opinion, but not competitive really?

A just hope he gets a decent fighter that most here will not say is a **** poor opponent. Hes world champ, top a his game he should be gettting put in against the best surely. Froggys took him to the top but is he now becoming a burden.....
