I agree, but I doubt he'd drop to #3 or lower without losing, which is what would need to happen for the winner of the Super Six to be the true champion.

Unless he gets a Pavlik fight (which has been rumored, but I'll believe it when I see it), it's hard to see how Bute could retain his standing while fighting the dregs of the weight class and/or guys he's already beaten.

We are in agreement there too. And I doubt he would drop any lower than 2, as the other guys will have lost at some point.
I think, after the Super 6, alot more will get hashed out. I don't think it is a necessity that he fight the winner, but at least a top guy or 2. If he were to fight any of the Ward/AA/Froch trio, it would be a good, solid fight( as of right now anyway). Who knows what the future brings, but the SMW division is stacking up nicely for the next few years. It's a shame that the tourney excluded a few choice guys. In effect, they kind of get frozen out.

I dont like bute, and I understand what people are saying, as in its like Bute is being put on a pedestal where he gets to fight the winner... but heres the deal, the winner has to fight someone anyways. The winner of this tourny will be the man in the division... regardless of what bute does, and since the winner will have spent two years fighting out through the tourny, the only unfinished buisness will be a bute that is cleaning up the stragglers within the division....

I think its a logical next step....

The only other thing i can think of is to have bute fight the second place guy, with the winner getting a crack at the champ.

But this is boxing... bute will have waited two years and if hes still undefeated, then i think its natural that he get to fight the winner, because unless the winner plans on moving up or taking a loooooooong break... theres really nothing else out there for him outside of more rematching of people who were in the tourny.

What means a better record?Beating Kessler and Miranda?
The Board of The Ring voted with 5-1 for Bute to surpass Ward as topspot of the category after his last fight. Box Rec puts also Bute much ahead of Ward.
THis "he beat that but not that" is pure amatorism.

Let`s let the profesionals to have the last word.

Oh Boxrec has him ahead? Well then, case closed.

Nah, i can see the arguments both ways. Kessler was regarded as the #1 and Ward beat him. That alone might not make him #1, but defeating Miranda is a good accomplishment aswell, perhaps making him #1.

Bute has good wins against Andradex2 (whom Kessler defeated with bigger ease than he did first time round), and Sakio Bika (solid, but not quite up there)

So, in order of win quality, here goes:

    Kessler (WARD)
    Andrade x2 (BUTE)
    Miranda (WARD)
    Bika (BUTE)

It is dead even for me. Ward is likely to steal it soon though, if he takes Green and Dirrell (i believe he is facing him afterwards).

I`m forced to do an intervention here.BUTE HASN`T TO WIN TO SOMEONE TO WIN THAT RIGHT. , MOSTLY IF HE REMAINS UNBEATEN OR WILL HAVE THE OTHER BELT TOO.HE WOULD WIN THE RIGHT TO BE COMPARED WITH THE WINNER!
THE WINNER WILL HAVE ALL INTEREST TO NOT LET UN UNDEFEATED BUTE TO DOUBT THE TITLE OF UNDISPUTED.
I say this in the case one or all this matches will not take place.

HBO seems to have taken a liking to Bute.

It's my understanding that Showtime has some options on the tournament winner.

This business of who fights the tourney winner is not as easy as Sauerland makes it sound.

I would like to know if the winner has obligations toward Showtime. I can see Showtime asking for it but I can also see the promoters involved not very kind to agree. In the negociations that took place, everyone had to let a bit of power. For a promoter, to sign a 2 years deal is not easy. The deal could become uninteresting if you add more obligations after its end.

If Bute fights only tomato cans, he will still be the best opponent to face but he won't be able to call himself the number 1 man in the division. No way. At the end, Ward could have beaten Kessler, Green, Dirrell and Abraham. Would you still put Bute ahead of him? I like Bute, he's my favourite boxer but that wouldn't be fair. If Bute wants to keep the number one spot or be near it (depending of how you look at it), he needs to face good competition and wish that none leaves the tournament undefeated.

Miranda and Pavlik this year would be a good start.;)
