Exactly, Dawson hasnt lost a fight yet, has great skills and has beaten legit champions- tarver twice, johnson, adamek. the winner of the tourney might have a loss on his record and bar Taylor none of them going in have beaten the same quality of opponents.
I think we have to take into account the context. I'm not too sure as to how long the tournament is going to last but its gotta be about 2 and a half yrs? how will the p4p list have changed in 2 and half yrs? and how will the winner feature in that list. in 2 and a half yrs, I don't think pac/cotto/mosley/hopkins/jmm will be in that list anymore, there all bloody retiring (cotto says if he loses to pac, hes gone, pac says theres 3 more fights after cotto, mosley+bhop+jmm too old?) so, I guess my original statement that the winner would be no.7, could well be no.3 in 2 and a half yrs...
top 5 in my opinion. These are all top players facing each other. Thats what the p4p should be not facing the most famous names which is basically what it is nowadays.
this is something I've wondered myself. What if the guy who wins, wins with some controversy. Maybe he gets 2 controversial decisions along the way, he gets the belts, he gets the bragging rights, but where is he ranked by Ring and where does he go next????
yep PWill is the only guy I'm putting my money on being around after those 2 years (barring no injuries or pull outs).
Is that your list? Why would you have someone #1 on your made-up individual subjective "p4p" list with the caveat: (only because of public opinion) ? :blood
Good post, but I do not agree that this tourney will decide the best SMW. Spring of 2011 is a long ways off, and a lot could happen. Let's assume Bute beats Andrade again, Pavlik blows Williams out of the ring, and then Bute or Pavlik grabs the WBO title, and then a Bute/Pavlik fight happens. The winner of that fight would have just as much right to be called #1 as the tournament winner. Of course, there are other scenarios that would lead to the touney winner being a lock for #1, but it's not a given.
If someone goes 5-0, I'd say top 5 is a lock. Most of the current top 10 guys won't be fighting (at least not at the level they are now) in 2 1/2 years; that's going to create openings for fighters to move in and replace them, and the winner of the tournament will have as good an argument as anyone.
Dunno i suppose if Kessler wins he will become around top 10 maybe up to 6 buut bo higher...honestlly i cant really see any of the others breaking into the top 10 if they win hoever i cant really see another person winning to be honest
