I already posted this is the sticky equipment thread. Okay so im in japan currently training for boxing and EVERYONE i mean EVERYONE swears by winning gloves. They're made in japan so its natural that all japanese love them. The quality is amazing, but they are ridiculously expensive. They say i'll never have to replace a pair of gloves or headgear again but the headgear alone is like 260 and the gloves are close to 300 so in total thats like $600 for a pair of gloves and headgear. I actually bought the head gear took it home didnt even open the bag and I was like did I just spend $260?! I returned it in the bag untouched lol my boxing coach says if you can afford them they're the finest on the market but are they worth it?! Please i'd like feedback on this!
I've never owned Winning equipment, but most pros at my gym use their headgear and gloves. I've sparred in the gloves a couple of times and they seem to be padded very well- they offer great hand protection and they're totally different than Reyes gloves which I have used for a very long time. The winning gloves have that high quality look and feel. Virtually everyone who uses them has only good things to say about them- but the thing with me is that I don't want to spend a shitload of money on something that will be covered in sweat, start smelling like **** after a while and will have to get fabreezed a lot. But if I was a pro I'd probably get myself some Winning equipment. So I'd say they're worth it if you have the money and are willing to spend it- because the quality is amazing. But, Grant/Reyes make great gloves too & and they're cheaper.
the gloves are amazing. when i was using everlast gloves and hitting the heavy bag my hands after hitting it felt kinda bad. Then my aunt buys me some winning gloves from japan i try them on start hitting the heavy bag and sparring and my knuckles have never had the same feeling as the everlast gloves did. About the headgear i know nothing about couples of pros that come to the gym have winning everything but I don't know about the quality of the headgear.
The Winning gear is excellent and the best gear if you can afford the price tag. I recently had a hand injury and knuckle problems, so for me investing in the winning gloves was a no brainer. If you want to protect your hands or are prone to injuries get the winning gloves. Also get the winning knuckle guards and put under your wraps, excellent. There is a reason the top boxers train with winning gear, it provides second to none protection for your hands. As you say only downside is the cost, but for me 350 or a broken or injured hand, ill take the 350 every time.
also the only reason Japanese gym's have all winning gear is because for one it's great quality stuff that you can buy at local stores for a great price and also importing other brands are much more expensive than getting the winning brand in japan. For example when I was living there I went to a sports store and saw winning gloves for 60-80 USD but I look over and see some everlast shoes in a catalog and see there more expensive than getting a pair of great Mizuno boxing shoes so you see this is the main reason why japan has winning gear only.
I rate the headgear but not the gloves so much, using the 12oz gloves on the heavy bag is exactly the same as using everlast 10oz gloves imo. They do seem very durable though, they have the curved design which I don't like so much. The headgear is the best.
