There are certain fights that I don't think the winner got enough credit for. Here are a few off of the top of my head: Chagaev/Valuev - Chagaev gave up a foot in height and almost 100 pounds against a guy who was 46-0 and he beat him. It just seems to me that this wasn't talked about enough or wasn't recognized as a great enough victory Cotto/Malignaggi - Malignaggi (I guess that's how you spell it) is being talked about as one of the best at 140 right now, if not the best since Hatton is moving up. The only loss on his record is from Cotto and I consider this win almost as big, if not just as big as Cotto's win over Judah. It just doesn't seem like anyone thinks this win has any significance for Cotto Mayweather/Judah - Now I'm not a Mayweather fan at all, in fact, I would love to see Hatton beat the **** out of him (although I know it's probably not going to happen). Cotto get's a shitload of recognition for his win over Judah, which of course, came after Mayweather beat him. I think Mayweather should get more recognition for this win. Name a few of your fights like this...I know there has to be several I didn't think of. :good
Wladimir/Byrd When Vitali won the event against Lewis Margarito/Cintron Taylor/Hopkins Hatton/Castillo
definetly hatton/castillo,ill mention an old 1 in gatti/rodriguez(mar96) just bcoz ive never seen any1 else mention that fight on here
LogDog69, I fail to see what's "big" about beating Judah. Certainly the most overrated welterweight, must I need to name one.
Cotto/Quintana -- I think Carlos is a very talented fighter, and Cotto absolutely drew the blood out of him. Basically made him quit. Mayweather/Judah -- Prior to the Baldomir fight, people said Judah would be Floyd's toughest matchup. But then the A-game Judah fought Floyd that April, and Mayweather still managed to wear him down with superior skills and intelligence.
I agree with you on Tito but not DLH. Tito had proven power at middleweight, he had destroyed Joppy whom no other middle was or ever has been able to KO since then. He had filled out middleweight quite nicely and even looked bigger than hopkins in some ways, it was the first loss for a prime fighter at a weight that might not have been his best but where he still would have beaten everyone else other than hopkins. Not to mention that Tito was either # 1 or 2 on just about every p4p list at the time. Hopkins was a 3-1 underdog going into this fight DLH on the other hand was past his prime, significantly outsized by hopkins, had lost to much smaller men already and looked like **** in his only fight at middle (arguably lost it). Hoya was a 6-1 underdog going into the fight and for good reason. With regard to the original thread question, I think Hatton deserves more credit for his win over Tzyu. people say that Tzyu was old and shot but he was also top 5 p4p, the undisputed champ of the division and a huge favorite over Hatton.
I didn't necessarily mean beating Judah was "big". I really just wanted to put more emphasis on the fact that almost everyone considers Judah to be Cotto's biggest win and disses Mayweather for fighting Judah after Judah was beaten by Baldo. No one disses Cotto for fighting Judah after he was beaten by Baldo and Mayweather...therefore that's why I look at Mayweather's win over Judah at underappreciated and without enough recognition. As far as Judah being "overrated," I say yes and no. I mean he is the only one to ever knock out spinks and he was the undisputed welterweight champion. On the other hand, him being touted as Pernell Whitaker with some pop, I don't think so.
I have a very well thought out answer as to why Briggs didn't get much credit for KO'ing Liakovich last year....because he SUCKS ASS!!!!! :yep
It's funny because no one will admit it now but people were calling Lyakhovich the best heavyweight. Then when he goes down, those same people disappear.
