I just was'nt seeing that and was asking before the fight in this thread to name me fights of Smith where he imployed a good solid jab against a good fighter and fought from distance which he needed to do in this fight in order to compete against Canelo.

Indeed their are levels and I like you were'nt seeing Smith winning vs Canelo to start with.
But as there are levels, you've quite often over emphasized the skill aspect of it.
The more skilled fighter does'nt always win, and there are numerous examples to prove it, the most recent one was Loma vs Teofilo, it was'nt all about skill in that fight, Loma imo is more skilled but not skilled enough to overcome the physical attributes that Teo had on him.

If Smith had a jab like Kovalev for example, the fight would have turned much more difficult with just the jab alone.
Sometimes a simple hard jab can offset a fighter who is all-around multi dimensionally skilled, remember Samuel Peters rematch with James Toney. Bet you picked Toney to school Peters in that rematch, turns out that Peters changed his gameplan from how he fought Toney the first time and embarassingly dominted the much more skilled Toney with just the offering of a hard jab that was mainly the only punch Peters needed to dominate Toney.
Not always about skill, sometimes is just one aspect in the others game that the other fighter has no defense for.
