With Byrd as referee, Castro would never had KO'd Jackson

20 years ago, Jorge Castro was in the same dire situation against John David Jackson as Horn last night: badly outclassed, not having won a single rd, and in danger of being stopped imminently.

But Jackson forgot defense for a split second while going for the kill, and Castro being the puncher he was, needed only one blow to end the fight.

Could the same have happened yesterday had Byrd not intervened while Horn was still defending himself?

Horn is by his own right a hurtful puncher and Crawford has been badly hurt by much smaller men ( Gamboa) when going for the kill, exactly what he was doing last night.

I have no doubt Horn was relieved being saved by Byrd, but technically and by my judgement, he was still in the fight and still had a puncher's chance to turn it around.

Crawford didn't really take the belt from the champion as he should: we have Byrd to thank for that.

The stoppage was indeed a wee bit early, but Horn had no chance of winning. He wasn't just gassed, he was clueless and demoralized at that point. His hands had slowed, his defense was gone. Nothing like the guy we saw in the first 6 rounds.

He had also been KD'ed in the previous round, and just before the stoppage he took a HUGE left from Crawford. IMO he would have been knocked out in the next 30 seconds.

I definitely wish Byrd had not called it right then, but I'm also not mad about it.

    From about 1:30

Benn would have most likely been stopped if that fight was today.

Count the punches in the 9th round. I counted 10 straight for Crawford at the end of the bout. If the boxer is not throwing back then the fight should be stopped. The only other ending to the fight would have been Horn on his shield

LOL I have a recommendtion for situations such as yours. It's called Preparation H. It sooths much of, if not all, the butt hurt you are experiencing. Just a little squeeze on your finger tips and spread on sore area. Re-apply before and after watching the Crawford/Horn fight. It will be ok.

One of the worst threads I've seen on general since that Horn spammer disappeared like a fart in the wind for some unknown reason.

Byrd has always been quick on the stoppage, even in that mayweather v mcgregor fight I thought he was to quick jumping in basically the 1st time Mcgregor got wobbled

Bryd was simply a disgrace. I seriously thought that was Crawford's father in there with him

I swear to God, through the grainy video, I could see Bryd wince every time Horn got close to Crawford, to the point I have no doubt he was there feeling every punch and attack Crawford absorbed.

Every single time Horn would try to get on the inside, the ref would take one step forward to tell Horn to stop, and every time Crawford would use his elbows and headlock Horn, Bryd would to take one step back to observe and approve.

By the time the fight had reached it's conclusion, the only shock I was left with, is that Bryd didn't turn around after waving the fight off to hug and embrace Terrance to tell him ''We did it......we got him''

I'm all for protecting the fighter but big fights especially world title fights, the fighters deserve to get any benefit of the doubt on there ability to continue

People don't realize how much a ref can influence a fight. Had Byrd let Horn fight in close I have no doubt that horn would of mauled crawfart and stopped him.
Look at floyds first fight with maidana and then the second with protection from the ref.

Do you recall Byrd getting Horn in a headlock in the 4th? Then in the 6th, Byrd junk punched poor ol Horn. We should get together and write the commission! I'm damned tired of these pitiful refs and the **** poor jobs they do! LETS RIOT!!! That'll teach'm!

You don't seem to understand that we can judge the referee's performance separate from the fight itself and it's outcome.

I believe Crawford would have won even if the ref had done his job with impartiality. That is besides the point, the point is the referee had a poor performance and it happens too often. One of the reasons for this is because they are being selected by the promoter of the hometown fighter.

In football here in the uk, it would be madness if the home team were able to select the referee they wished to have officiate the game while the away team didn't get any of the calls. It's called bringing the game/sport into disrepute.

It is clear Bryd was emotionally, spiritually and physically invested in Crawford from the moment that bell sounded and that wasn't good not only for Horn but for the spectators of the event itself because we are all robbed of witnessing a balanced fight.
