With cash infusion, DREAM targets international expansion, pay-per-view model

Well, what happened as a result of the Yakuza scandel? The TV deal dried up.

One benefited, one may or may not. One was a change in ownership and management, one is not. Who runs the thing is not an academic detail.

Bodog, IFL, Affliction, EliteXC all had capital injected into them, or more accurately had announcents of it.

This deal may work, but there is at least as good of a deal that it will amount to no change or a downturn.

 

It isn't an isolated case, it is symptomatic of the view of MMA as pure spectacle; that has it's own positives and negatives, it is not "more sophisticated"

Quiet doesn't equate to respectful either, there is a complete cultural separation; showing disrespect by whistling or quieter forms than booing doesn't equate to more respect.

Either way, the whole idea of MMA contracting in popularity in Japan has absolutely nothing to do with them being too sophisticated for it or offended by how organizations are run, they simply are less interested in it.

 

They could make it in the US, snatch up all of the 145 lb fighters. One of the deepest talent pools and lowest paid fighters in the sport. The UFC just dumps the small guys on Versus for Pennies. Boxing has shown for years now that the Cash Cows can come from the small weight classes, Contrary to protocol of the past saying that people don't want to see little guys fight. Affliction had a horrible bussiness model, paying fighters way to much! They should be prepared for slow growth or even a possible loss of money early on to establish there brand to the casual consumer. UFC puts on bad cards and still makes a **** load of money. The people will pay for genunuily stacked cards!

 

Dream make it in the US? I dont think so.

Pride were lucky to do 50,000 PPV buys in the US at its peak. dream would have no chance. Dream should be concentrating on getting there Japanse business strong again. All this talk of expansion is nothing but a smokescreen to the troubles they are having in Japan.

PPV will never be big in Japan. Not a chance!!

MMA in Japan will only start booming again when there are some genuine Japanese cross over stars. Its simply a matter of little home grown stars and the Gajin stars dont fight in Japan anymore.

Also a point not forgetting is there are no stars in Japanese pro-wrestling to take anymore.
