with his career heading to a close, hatton should be given his due.

i've been on this forum for 3 or so years now (including past accounts), and in that time, one of the biggest hatton critics on this site has been the legendary scot, dunky mccafferty. think of jack presscot/oscar de la hoya (without the sexual inuendos:lol:). now i've never been a hatton fan. at times, i've disliked hatton the fighter for various things. from his reluctance to make a fight with junior witter, to some of his questionable title defences. in fact, i usually side with scurlaruntings and betty swollocks whose epic hatton rants have given me a lot of good laughs through the years. but as hattons career looks more and more like it's coming to a close, i have to admit that he has my respect. with dunky's permission, i'd like to share a post dunky put up yesterday that some of you might find a bit long but i think it's worth a read.

As far as "Charges of the Light Brigade" go, that's a very pleasant one to read.

Of course, Hatton deserves respect for taking his limited skillset that defies categories and somehow clawing his way up to shots at elite status, while still staying accessible to the man-on-the-street back home. The mindset problem, I believe, is the old trope about reaching for the stars, while keeping his feet on the ground. He tried to stretch, but couldn't stop boxing like a club fighter. That he was able to compete for so long with those handicaps says really good things about him.

But, as for nobody else hitting him like Pac did, the resistance is more than likely *poof* gone. You saw how mentally/emotionally damaged he was by PBF. He'd have to step down drastically in the quality of his opponents and I'm not sure his ego could take that. Best to just stick where his feet stubbornly stuck: open a local business or chain, maybe box as a hobby. I guess it's almost a Monica Seles thing: she still plays, she still enjoys it, but she has no illusions about what would happen if she stretched back out into the elite class.

Ugh, I'm straying into really stupid allegories here. Places with permanent records of what you say is a bad place for insomniacs to be in the middle of the night... but, hopefully, some portion of this made sense.

I'm from Manchester and thought Hatton would get beat (check my posts) and by the fight time, due to various reasons I have to admit I ended up wanting him to lose. But it now annoys me so much how many people are coming out of the woodwork saying so many insulting things. I feel sorry for the lad. He tried his best and never really dodged anyone. Everyone thought Tyszu would beat him...he took it. Everyone thought Mayweather would beat him...he took it. Everyone thought Malignaggi would beat him...he took it. Everyone thought PAcquiao qould beat him... he took it. Give the lad his dues ( I know you 3 are) but Calzaghe gets rated to **** on this site and it annoys me to ****. He fought Kessler and that was it. Lacy had 24 fights when they met....thats not a prime fighter. **** Calzaghe. I have more respect for hatton anyday. And i'm by not by a long shot a great fan of his

Hatton didnt have to fight Pacquiao or Mayweather.

He could of gone the Calzaghe/Mayweather route and fight guys who he would be perceived as a heavy favorite against for his entire career. There is no question that Hatton is a warrior.

Hatton was a good fighter, and a warrior who went out on his shield when he fought the best.

    What more can you ask?

Credit should go to Hatton for taking the fight. Many fighters would love to have half the career that Hatton has had. I agree with Dunky McCafferty that Hatton should not retire on that note. Maybe a fight against Tim Bradley at the City of Manchester stadium is a good way to go. A fight on home soil to say good bye to his fans, and a win would see him bow out as a world champion.

The Hatton backlash and **** taking has gone way too far.

Everyone will be eating humble Pie when PAc destroys his next opponents in a similar fashion.

Are you serious? Manny and Floyd are the ONLY 2 "Elite" fighters on his entire resume.

Hatton is/was a hype-job. He's not done a single thing since his WWE victory over KT, and is undeserving of any acclaim. He's a ****ing joke.

Perhaps you would like to name all of the 'elite' 140pound fighters from the last 5 years that Hatton didn't fight?

I'll give you a head start - Cotto

Cotto moved up from 140 fast he could no longer make the weight and felt weak and drained at it.

Collazo was a good win for hatton as was urango imo.

Yes he's no elite atg but none the less you have to admire what he has done on the back of limted skills.

    He's all willpower and grit.

Yep, for all Hattons deficiencies in the ring, having balls and courage is not one of them. He deserves credit for giving it a go, and he has earned the right to enjoy his money. Shame to see him go like that but he has way overachieved with the amount of talent he actuall has and that is down to his personality and agression.

Have a rest Ricky, I think you have earned it!
