Zhang and he already got it. The man put Jerry the nobody Forrest 3 times down and still had a draw fight. Jerry who lost to the past his prime Pulev. But hey, he busted the head of a no ring IQ straight line guy that was another big hype and now he's the big deal that will school everybody, including Fury, but of course, not Usyk.

Now I do agree with that. You should always build on momentum

Boxers had to fight a lot more in Ali and Frazier's day; they weren't making 50£ million like Fury and fight once a year. Picking a Daniels type opponent and calling it padding is bs....Joe was just going to work and making a living and so was Daniels. At least we got to see the HW champ fight 3 or 4 times a year even if it was a Jean Pierre Coopman sort of fight. Znd it didn't cost $70 to see it.

Probably Wardley. He's terrible, but on the other hand he's British.

I watched a video on YouTube I agreed with, suggested if the Top 10 got active and everyone fought a few times a year and there was no dodging I think everyone in the Top 10 would lose at least once.

Usyk when he gets pitted up against a proper heavyweight although even a sub tier heavy could banana peel him.

Not to saying he's hype he's not he's awfully good but will get slapped by someone who either knows what they're doing unlike AJ or has more than a looping overhand right ala Chisora.

Odd reply, even for this site. Most of your response was to issues I didn't address, like: boxers had to fight more in the past and the cost of PPV. Did you adjust for inflation? Houses that cost 500K were 50K two generations ago. Nearly everyone is making much more $ too, even though most are not keeping up w/the cost of living. Like it or not, it's the world we live in. Oh, even most top HWs don't make Fury & AJ type $, but they make big $ compared to most people. Wilder is slammed for a thin resume, but he's a very wealthy man.
For your benefit. My response to the original issue was that not all of Fury's opponents were padding and critics should be consistent. Most are not. You're a perfect example of that. People here criticize current HWs for not fighting often enough. That's fair. But, like you, find fault with most of their opponents. While, also like you, making excuses for and giving the fighters in the past a free pass for fighting no hopers.

    Using your "logic"
Picking a Chisora type opponent and calling it padding is bs....Tyson was just going to work and making a living and so was Chisora.

I picked two Fury opponents that I didn't think were padding - Wallin & Whyte. The others were unnecessary, like Chisora 3. If Wallin & Whyte were padding then there was lots of padding in the so called golden age. If you want the HWs to fight more often you have to accept more Fury-Chisora 3, AJ-Franklin, etc. What else happens here when there's a fight between two top HWs? The losing fighter gets trashed. See Joyce vs. Zhang. Joe is 2-1 vs. three recent top opponents (DD, Parker, ZZ) and he's yesterdays news.

Re Frazier. His defense vs. Ron Stander was a borderline pad. At least Stander was a good sized HW for that era but was one level above a bouncer in talent. Daniels was a joke defense. I get it, you have a bias for the older HWs. I call it nostalgia fumes to be nice, but I know the biases are often based on not so pleasant reasons as nostalgia.

What's funny to me is how clueless some are on here. If we had widespread web in the 70s & 80s, most here would be trashing many of the HW fights of that era. It's what many like to do here. It wasn't all Ali-Frazier back then. Lots of Ali-Lubbers, Dunn, Coopman, etc.

why dont we get to the truth of the matter, it aint that hard to find. pick a year, pre 2k, and lets make a direct comparison of what was going on in the hw division then, opposed to now. i already have my opinion, but i want to see what the facts are.

Wallin hasn't a good win to his name, whether you care to look it up or not.

I "know" you as an active poster. Well, you seem to show up in threads I'm reading. I generally have a favorable view of you but that might be mainly due to who you have in your avatar. At least we both admire Clint. I'm sure I've agreed and disagreed w/some of your views.
What are you proposing? Take the top 10 HWs from 1975 and compare w/2020? 100s of pairs of years at least 25 years apart could be analyzed. Could/ should use RING ratings as others are too political and/or economically tainted. Two ways you can go. #1 from 1975 & 2020 hypothetically fight, down to #10 from each year. That will give you a sample of 10. Or run through every pairing of HWs between those years. That gives a sample of 45. Either way someone using some criteria (yes, size and strength is one of them) will make their decision for each theoretical fight. Even if some highly advanced statistical model / data analytics was used (that almost nobody here would understand), most members would reject the results if they didn't like them. Ofc that's childish but it's also the truth. You actually don't have to get that sophisticated. Common sense and a bit of logic should be enough to easily make fair outcomes from most of these fights.

You do it and present it to us. I won't waste my time, well not anytime soon.

I'll give you an example. Now I've used Terry Daniels (TD) in other posts and I'm not picking on the guy. He's an EXAMPLE of a marginal HW that was once ranked & got a title shot. I searched for RING & Daniels and found a RING article on him when he passed. His bout w/Frazier was ~1972 but that's beside the point. Before finding the article I guessed he was bottom top 10 when he faced Joe F. The article stated that TD was ranked (a generous) #9 at that time. TD was listed at 6'1" 191 1/2 lbs. For the love of God, most any top near 200 lb. CW, would likely defeat such a "HW". This was a no-hoper, pad filling defense for Joe. Some forum brainiac disagreed w/me I believe Wallin & Whyte were more live dogs vs. Fury than TD was vs. Joe F. I'd say TD and even better top 10 HWs from the pre 80s go about 0-10 vs. more recent to current top 10 HWs. Outside of 90s Lewis, Tyson, Holy I'd guesstimate many of that era's top 10 HWs have losing records vs. recent to current top 10.

Forget Fury. Lets match across 50+ years Wallin (not even top 10) & Whyte vs. Champ Frazier & fringe contender DT. Now Wallin & Whyte average rankings are worse than Joe F & Terry D! That gives us 4 fights. I say Wallin & Whyte go 3-1 or 4-0 vs. Frazier & DT. The only fights to even think about are the ones vs. Frazier. For over 100 years HWs have generally gotten better. It's not in a straight line but across a 25 or more year comparison it holds up very well. Examples: top HWs from 1935 vs. 1910; 1955 vs. 1930, etc. Just watch, some troll will take the top 1930 HW and say they'd have a winning record vs. 1955 top 10 HWs. Even if that was true, we have 9 more 1930 HWs to match up w/the 1955 top 10. 1970 vs. 1945 #1 would give us Frazier (or Ali) vs. Louis. My view is Ali wins & probably so does Frazier, although that's a harder call. There are so many pairings to analyze, but however you do it most people will not change their minds.

Re Daniels. He paid the price for his boxing career. He made it to 74. Well before he was diagnosed w/ Parkinson’s and traumatic brain injury. By 68 he was living in an assisted-living facility, suffering from tremors and memory loss, and using a walker to get around. He said he had no regrets. Daniels purse was 35K (most likely his biggest) being served up as a softball for Frazier*. After all the expenses and taxes, I wonder if he put half of that in his bank account Yeah, a $ 50+ years ago is like about 8-10 today, but look how he spent the latter part of his life.

    * Joe's was 10X at 350K. Hmm someone in Joe's camp was greedy. Give the sacrificial lamb 20% ffs instead of 9%.
