Miranda landed till he got exhausted, that's a fact and he hurt Pavlik BADLY in the 3rd. Taylor landed till he got exhausted, Lockett is a punching bag man, did you see the way he stands still and takes punches?, he didn't have the reach either and still managed to land some serious clean shots.

Miranda only really landed solid punches on a few occasions and Taylor when Pavilk was clowning. Another thing is even if you can hit Pavlik, can you take his punches as the fight goes on. Few fighters could.

Miranda landed and landed A LOT, don't really know what fight you were watching and Taylor landed a lot as well not only when Pavlik was clowning, are you trying to say that Pavlik is a defensive master now?, both those guys landed A LOT on him, which is why no one is questioning his chin anymore simply because he's not that hard to hit and the ability shines based on that and opening one's eyes real good when he fights.

Yeah, few fighters could take his punch but the air can take it all night when Calzaghe is his opponent. The more Calzaghe lands the more tired Pavlik gets and the more energy is forced out of him which makes his punch easier and easier to handle as the fight goes on. One punch won't be enough to finish off Calzaghe and Pavlik already proved that he needs to land and land a lot to finally break an opponent down, Calzaghe WON'T allow him to do that and doesn't need too much for it either considering how predictable this guy is.

Keep in mind people that some people, like Bute, Kessler and Abraham, are huge stars in the respective backyards (with Abraham being a continent wide star in Europe), so it isn't like these guys aren't draws in their own right. We are talking about Kelly as an American star, and he certainly has the potential to become the face of American boxing. I'd pick Bute over him for now, ditto for Calzaghe, but he could do a lot for himself if Abraham clearly defeats Miranda and then Kelly beats him. That fight is 50/50, and if he beats Abraham that is a huge feather in his cap.

i haven't read the responses to this post at all but my take is that it's pretty naaive if you think kelly has that much to offer.

kelly is the new people's champion IMO, taking over from gatti, but the spotlight for me is on cotto.

don't forget that pavlik had bugger-all on his record prior to taylor which was only 3 fights ago...

pavlik's a crowd - pleaser and a warrior, but for my mind it's borrowed time.

Well, I never said Kelly was a ONE punch KO artist. I should have elaborated more in my statement. Should have said that the 1st good right hand that lands "will be the beginning of the end". Thats how Kelly does it. Its so obvious & that is his M.O. I didn't think I needed to spell it out entirely.

Kelly is very sound fundamentally. In many aspects of life, when things get out of control, you go back to the fundamentas BECAUSE THEY WORK. These are time tested techniques and provide a 'center'. Did you hear Lowe tell Pavlik that Lockett was doing EXACTLY what they thought he would? Joe isn't going to invent something new between 'now and then'. Both camps will live with the films. This fight will be tough for both guys.

edit: Lockett had a plan too. What happened? He got hit hard in the face. People seem to think Pavlik won't lay a mitt on Ole Joe all night. Get real. These two will get in range.

Pavlik said Lockett hit him once? I guess he only counts the shots he feels are significant. That is what people don't seem to 'get' about Kelly. If a punch doesn't hurt, he will take it all night. I don't know how compubox scores a 'power punch' but Pavlik scored it a ONE for Lockett.

Not sure what to think on this one. I've been saying for a while now Taylor is the better style match up, now YOU agree? Of course, we disagree on the outcome so I guess all is good afterall.

I've started trying to make the point that Pavlik is given credit for finishing skills, but he wouldn't get to use them if he didn't have SETUP SKILLs. Lockett was done in the first round. Kelly had already landed enough that Lockett knew it was over. He was already in Kelly's game and he only made it out of the second round by taking a few knees. Sure, NO mitt on Ole Joe all night. Dream on guys....

Calzaghe would get KO'd by Dawson, Johnson, & George and probably KO'd by Pavlik, Jones, Taylor, & Tarver as well. But keep dreaming ... live the hype ... lol
