Can any of you Classicsters think of when an established, experienced fighter took on a new trainer and was able to benefit from new techniques late on in his career, and rejuvenated that career? I tend to think that you really can't teach an old dog new tricks. The fighter just resorts back to the flawed techniques that he knows. I'm sure there are examples out there that contradict that view, however.....
Yeah, I really didn't see any head movement in the fight from Hatton. It's usually a desperation move.
Manny Pacquaio is actually a good example of continuous improvement in style. Roach has done a good job of supplementing and tweaking Pacquaio's fighting style, to the point where he's become a much better, more well-rounded fighter. The problem with Ricky is that he probably didn't have enough time to really work out his issues, and Mayweather Sr. probably wasn't the right man for the job anyway. Ricky needs someone who understands his style and the way he fights, and tweak/supplement that to make him better at what he does. Mayweather Sr. was probably trying to turn him into a slick boxer or something, which is a bad idea. You can't/shouldn't change a fighter's style so late in his career, only add to it.
