This. Witherspoon in shape batters Wlad around the ring and stops him. However, Witherspoon was very inconsistent even in his prime and would often show up overweight.
I think Witherspoon gets overlooked because people tend to remember the out of shape unmotivated version, largely caused by his involvement with Don King. But he was an excellent fighter when he wanted to be. I'll go Spoon by late stoppage.
Half the Classic forum is on meds if they think Witherspoon stops Klitschko. Let's talk about the years that Witherspon dominated the heavyweight scene
this is H2H. recall that Tim lost by narrow SD vs prime Holmes. if you think its worth asking whether Witherspoon would go 10 years unbeaten against such illuminaries as near 40 year part time thompson as his arguable best opponent, please do, it would be a great thread pal for you to start.
I think Pre-Steward Wlad would get stopped early and the jab and grab version would win a close decision with nearly getting disqualified if the fight would take place in the US.
Ordinarily I'd side with you, but Witherspoon was one of those H2H nightmare opponents that could always pull an upset if he came in on form. He's certainly someone I'd favour to outgut the younger Wlad, and I think he causes the older Wlad a lot of problems as well. That isn't to say I think he's a better fighter than him, but that he possesses the right combination of tools and mental strength to beat Wlad if the stars align.
That's only really a factor if we're talking a series of fights. On a one off I think it's safe to assume we take the best versions of both.
I would disagree. I can't wee why we would do that when the best best version of Witherspoon rarely, if ever, turned up. Cocaine, booze and twinkies were part of the man's life. Well, twinkies were actually Greg Page, but you get what I am saying.
Like Purity, Brewster or the Golfer dominated the Heavy scene ? WK lost to some incredible low level opposition and while I am certainly not high on Witherspoon but if we cherry pick the Bruno version than WK most likely is taking a nap.
When I think about this one its very close. I think Witherspoon in his prime would be big and strong enough not to be overwhelmed by Wlad, he'd be quick and skilled enough to counter Wlad and would have the edge the longer the fight goes. Wlad would have to win a decision using his jab and throwing more power punches then normal or would have to catch Witherspoon and take him out.
Well, if you wanted to be scrupulously fair I suppose you could count the number of times both fighters turned up in shape throughout their career and calculate that somehow into how likely they'd be to show up at their best for this fantasy fight, but that all seems a bit overly complex to me.
