GGG currently holds these belts: * WBA Super * WBC Interim Lemieux holds: * IBF Cotto holds: * WBC * Ring So if GGG beats Lemieux, he picks up the IBF belt. And if Canelo/Cotto avoid a GGG fight, then I guess either GGG just picks up the WBC belt or faces another challenger for the WBC belt. Not sure what would happen to the Ring title if Canelo/Cotto avoid Golovkin. At that point (saying GGG beats Lemieux and possibly someone else for the vacant WBC belt), GGG would then hold: * WBA Super * WBC * IBF * Ring? All that would be missing at that point would be the This content is protected belt belonging currently to Andy Lee. And then GGG could start tracking down that belt, although Lee's next opponent (Saunders) does not seem very keen to take on GGG. As much as I would like to see Golovkin face Canelo/Cotto, I won't be mad if he doesn't get to face them as long as he can pick up the belt(s). And that seems like it would be the case. The more unified champions we can have, the better. Belts don't mean everything, but as GGG consolidates the belts (if he keeps winning) and grows as a PPV figure, it will be harder and harder for fighters to avoid him. So if GGG can't force guys to fight him now, he should be stronger in that position fairly soon provided he keeps racking up the belts, wins and PPV buys.
It's about time. I just hope he does well in his PPV's. Then, there will be no avoiding him for anyone. Well, except maybe whoever might be the John Ruiz/Deontay Wilder figure holding the WBO belt. I like Cotto and Canelo, both. But if they want to play games then it's time to take them off the stage. Taking away the belt helps that happen.
:good:good God it must be petrifying knowing that you hold a belt that Golovkin wants! Each day that passes is another day closer to an epic beating...
