..And this isn't a dig at Kell. The Carson Jones fight gave him something he had never had in his career. He took him in to waters he'd never swam and this in my opinion is what allowed Kell to box with so much focus and patience against Porter. thnakyou Carson!
Though arguably without Kell not training, eating and preparing properly for that fight he wouldn't of had that type of encounter v Jones.
What it gave him was the understanding that doing the weight poorly negatively impacts you in ways he clearly never imagined.
Probably true in terms at least of Kell realising that you must prepare right, do the weight correctly etc. He was completely gassed after 6 rounds in that fight.
Carson jones clocking Kell in the nose was also pretty hilarious. Seeing Khan or Froch getting socked in their big noses would be similarly funny.
Has he gave any big reason as to why he's jacked it in? He's only what 27/28? Though he has racked up quite a lot of fights. Never a world level fighter, but he's a guy who could seperate the "men from the boys" shall we say. Remember in the lead up to Brook hearing that he'd stopped a few prospects in there tracks and he did put it on Brook in there first fight, which has only served to help Brook in the future.
Totally correct. People threw around the word exposed after Brook vs. Jones I, but in reality it was a valuable learning experience. Look at the rematch.
Only 28 but debuted in his teens and had a hard road, having to do more with less (wasn't born with loads of natural talent, got by on grit) and probably realizes his upset springing days are behind him and doesn't feel like becoming a welterweight Danny Williams
Don't know of he would've failed against Porter in particular but you're right in what you're saying. It's also one of the main reasons people was saying Porter had it in the bag. The only thing Porter's team should (and in fairness probably did) take from this fight is that Brook can pass a gut check and he defiantly knows he needs to take preparation seriously.
