    Hello,

If Marciano had never existed who would've beat Walcott for the title? Not having to go through that first war with Rocky should keep him in good heart and shape. He already fought Charles four times and beat him the last two of those times. So Charles is out of the running. I think he has a great reign, I can't see anyone at the time beating him. What do you think?

    Thank You.

Anyone really. He was too inconsistent and was always liable to get knocked out.

Against Louis and Rocky and Charles first two times he's 0-6. With 3 ko losses and 3 points losses.

But he did beat Charles once by KO, and who would be around who was anywhere the level of Marciano, Louis, or Charles?

False, as we know. The first time he fought for the championship, he likely won the fight, the majority of sportswriters felt he won. The only press reports that even gave the fight to Louis, did so because JWW was coasting and they didn't like that. Which tells us without question, that JJW was outboxing Louis for the majority of the fight. How? Well, if the majority still felt JJW won, even after giving away the last 3 rounds coasting... That speaks volumes about how far he was ahead and dominating the action.

At this stage of Jersey Joe's career, on any given night he might lose to a younger fighter who he might otherwise be favored over. But barring this, assuming he retained the form of the last two Charles fights and what would have been the first Marciano fight, he might put together a few successful defenses. Who then would end his reign?

If Ezzard Charles fought his way back to top contender status by 1954, as he did in real life vs Marciano, he could do it if he fought the same fight he did in Marciano I.

Roland LaStarza might stand a chance.

Archie Moore, fresh off winning the LH title, is a possibility. It would be an interesting fight between two cagey old-timers.

Harold Johnson might stand an outside chance. Walcott had KO'd him in 3 a short time earlier, but with the passage of a few years, Johnson might have acquired enough savy to outpoint Walcott.

If JJW manages to get through all of these, I definitely see him losing to Patterson, but I seriously doubt he would get that far.

Walcott-Moore would have been a classic! I am torn on that one!

If the right scenario had played out, maybe Sugar Ray Robinson.

I posted nothing false. In his first two attempts at those 3 men he went 0-6 losing 3 by ko.

First Louis fight saw him edged on points, every observer bar one had it whiting one point. Rematch he gets sparked so cards don't matter.

First two against Charles heless competitive fights. Scores a one in a million punch for the third and gets a fortunate decision for the 4th.

Rocky he's sparked twice so cards don't matter.

The problem is, as champion Walcott went 1-2 with both losses by knockout and the one victory a very fortunate decision he likely should not have received so easily could be 0-3.

No way would Walcott have entertained a third fight with Louis whilst he was champion.
Without Marciano to ruin him Rex Layne would have had a shot,Moore,Johnson, and Clarence Henry are my favourites.
As has been said, Walcott was never Mr Consistency ,so it could have been anyone of them imo.

Without Rocky Rex Layne would remain the top new star. He already beat Walcott. He would have fought Mathews in the eliminator in place of Rocky. Maybe Layne might have been better for not fighting Rocky? We don't know.

What we do know is that the second best heavyweight after Rocky for the period was Moore. He beat Valdes and Baker and Johnson. Between Walcott losing to Rocky in real life and Moore challenging Marciano in real life Moore is the real outstanding heavyweight contender. The title would pass to Moore if anything less than a Marciano was champion.

Perhaps Walcott beats Layne and Lastarza. Is he getting past Charles? Having already fought and beat Walcott maybe Johnson gets a crack at Walcott since he beat Charles, but seeing as Walcott already beat Johnson maybe Valdes gets his crack at Walcott? Whatever happens all roads lead to Moore eventually. He had the consistency and beat the right men to prove it.

It would have been a big payday. If I remember rightly, Louis was being lined up to face Walcott but took on Marciano instead and was battered into retirement.

If it had n't been for 'The Rock' on the scene,it's highly feasible that Walcott and Charles would have fought for a fifth...even a sixth time.

Either Charles or Archie Moore end Joe's reign. Very 50/50 fights, though.

Joe Louis ? Not at this stage. Walcott would have struck third time lucky with him.

I think your memory is faulty.
Louis had no interest in fighting Marciano whom he did not think much of. When Walcott pulled the upset on Charles, Louis was p*ssed. He knew Walcott would not fight him again.
