Witter ain't all that - I've heard this phrase repeated on here a few times and to some degree think it's true. I've made a few posts picking Witter to beat Hatton but I don't class myself as a Witter hugger, I don't think he's one of the best around. He's had a solid if unspectactular career and at 34 he probably hasn't got that much time left in the game.

I still take him to defeat Ricky Hatton based on styles, but if he did take the #1 spot I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't hold it for long.

For all those who believe he would whip Hatton, do you believe Witter to be an elite fighter, or just somebody who's got Hatton's number?

I don't think either of them are elite fighters I just think Witter has the style to beat Hatton. The way he throws his punches would have Hatton walking into a lot of leather. Hatton prefers fighters he can bully but I don't think Witter would allow himself to be bullied & would use movement to keep Hatton off him.

Witter throws good hooking shots that Hatton is open to. Hatton doesnt have a jab either so he would lose rounds for simply not landing cleanly. No doubt Hatton would maybe win a few rounds early on because of pressure but I think he'd be stopped mid to late.

dan, Mayweather couldn't use movement to keep Hatton off him, he was just fantastic inside.

Has Witter got better movement than Mayweather?

No maybe I phrased that wrong. Mayweather gave Hatton movement on the outside as well as excellent in fighting. Obviously Witter doesn't have better movement than Mayweather but he does use the ring. He can move away & punch which would give Hatton problems. I'm not suggesting Hatton won't get close but he will have to take powerful shots to do so that would ultimately be telling in my opinion.

or perhaps he just chose to take on and humiliate Hatton at his own game? That's exactly what he did....there was plenty of roughhousing from Mayweather......how often have you seen that in other fights? Not much at all. He beat Ricky the ***** at his own game, and the **** has the nerve to still be whining about the ref and so on.

He doesn't need better movement than Mayweather he'll keep Hatton off with his power.

Hatton took Tszyu's punches, I don't think Witter hits that hard.

Witter always seem to take an age to line up the punch and then throw it, he paws a lot with his lead hand. If he tries to paw Hatton then Hatton will be in his chest before he knows it.

I can't see Witter winning rounds off Hatton. The aggression will be from Hatton, the most punches landed will be by him, most punches thrown as well, the initiation of action as well and with the crowd roaring everything Hatton does on top, I see Hatton winning a wide decision.

I think Witter has a punchers chance in the early rounds and that's it.

Yep. Mayweather really proved himself agaimst Hatton. Beating him at his own game, true boxing class. Showed Hatton to be the B level fighter he is.

I do not rate Hatton or Witter has elite fighters but rather the best of the rest.

and it's that simple is it?
Hatton took Tszyu's shots....but he got sparked by a guy who had not put a dent in an opponent, elite or not, in a long time. Never mind knocking their ass out.

Hatton took punches off Mayweather and got KTFO, Witter gets more torque in his shots than Mayweather too and its not a given that Tyszu hits harder than Witter. Remember Harris was putting away Tyszu opponents faster than Tyszu and Witter sparked him easy enough

Hatton was chasing the fight, had lost his temper a bit and was taking risks....Mayweather caught him with a shot as Hatton launched himself in.

Witter won't be ahead of Hatton after 9 rounds to force such a situation.

Hatton put Maussa away quicker than Harris did....because Harris didn't even put him away...

....and Hatton will alwys be behind Mayweather in any fight thats the reality, we could do it all over again with British fans and a different ref but it will be the same result.
