Despite receiving warnings from the camp of UK rival Ricky Hatton, WBC junior welterweight champion Junior Witter continues his verbal assault in the press. Several weeks ago, Hatton's camp told Witter that as long as he continues to slag Ricky in the press, he would never get the chance to fight him.
In a recent interview, this time with The Sunday Times, Witter says that Hatton has avoided him for years and continues to avoid him to this day.
“Hatton has avoided fighting me for years and he’s still avoiding me,” Witter said. “I look on it and think that life’s not fair and that’s just it. I’ve got a saying I use when a couple of my friends ask me how I’m doing. ‘I’m still black,’ I tell them. I could say, ‘I’m still Irish or I’m still Pakistani.’ Anyone who has been persecuted over the years for reasons that are unjust, that’s how I feel sometimes. But that’s life. Life’s not fair and people aren’t fair. Things go wrong and you don’t get what you deserve all the time. So you make the best of what you’ve got. I’ve got my health, I’ve got good friends around me, a good team behind me, a good woman. My life is truly fruitful. Do I think I could beat Ricky Hatton? Of course I do. I have no doubt at all and he knows it, too."
Witter said that Hatton is a flawed fighter, built up by the perfect matchmaking of former promoter Frank Warren, and says that Hatton's popularity is attributed from coming around at the right time - when people were looking for someone to like because they hated the man of the hour, Naseem Hamed.
"Technically, he’s limited. He has a big heart, he’s fit when he steps in the ring and he’s driven. He’s also good at what he does, pressuring opponents and wearing them down. But that wasn’t enough to beat Mayweather and it wouldn’t be enough against me. Ricky was lucky because he came around at the right time, straight after Naz whose personality and arrogance people had grown to hate. Hatton was white, from Manchester, loved his football, drank too much and was a typical lad. His style was basic and easy to understand," Witter said.
"Frank Warren built him up brilliantly and people tuned in because he’s not an unlikeable guy. Every so often a fight between us would get close but then it would just go away again. If a fight was too dangerous for Ricky it didn’t happen, so every time I was in the way I got moved out of his path. Hatton hates me and he can’t stand the fact that I’ll beat him, if we ever get it on in the ring. That’s why he and his handlers have never allowed the fight to take place.”

Why would Hatton give a huge payday to a ***** like Witter? He doesn't like him and it is that simple. I am really disapointed with Witter playing the card.

Stop crying. If Witter wants a big fight then he should make himself a big fighter.

if another fighter avoided someone the way witter is being avoided he would be called a cherry picker or scared and running from real challenges. but rick doesnt do it because it doesnt make the dollars(pounds) he is looking for. i mean it is a business. i hate when people use the card but i guess it would never be used if it didint apply. but i think the fight not happening is based on other things

to be fair to witter , when this fight was a possiblity years ago , witter was promoted by warren and went top of the card, as soon as witter did a number on some sturdy chins and looked impressive warren put him out to pasture on small hall bills v no names and refused to get him a meaningfull high profile fight or exposure to build his name.

for warren out of sight was out of mind.

    warren treated witter disgracefully

I'd love to see the fight and if Hatton really thought he could win, why wouldn't he take the opportunity to whoop Witters ass? I think it's because he knows he could lose and that it would end his career as an elite fighter.

How was Hatton able to get the Mayweather fight again?

Well said. Witter seems to think he is owed a big pay day. He isn't a marketable fighter & hasn't made himself a name. He holds the WBC title & people still dont know him!

Having said all that I would still like to see them fight as it is a fight that should have happened. When Hatton signed a new contract with Warren years back he actually had it written into his contract that they would fight. Does anyone remember that?

That's what he is trying to do here right? :D

How the **** can Witter become a bigger fighter when the number 1 man in the division is avoiding him like hell.

Hatton sounds like a right *****.

"WA WA..............don't call me out or I won't fight you..WA WA"

If Witter wasn't saying these things he'd still be in obscurity and Hatton would just ignore him completley!

This fight shouldn't even be in discussion, who the hell knows about Witter outside of the UK, No body besides some Hardcore fans. Witter has a long way to go before his name can be mentioned in the same sentence as Hatton.

As I have said all along, Hatton should market his loss to Floyd as a loss to a fighter far from his natural size, tricking his casual fans into believing that it was an "unfair" contest.

Then he should take 140 back, and use Witter for another huge fight in the UK.

I have no interest in Witter's whinging however.
