    Should Hatton comeback at all?

    By Mike Jones

Rumours circulated last week regarding a fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton. The rumour, since dismissed by De La Hoya himself, brought surprising excitement to the boxing community. Neither man has fought since respective losses to Manny Paquiao.
De La Hoya insists he is happily retired, but what about Hatton? Reports suggest that since entering rehab last September, after he was filmed snorting cocaine, Hatton has lost 30lbs and stayed clean. ’The Hitman’ is only 31, relatively young, and if he does fight again there is only one opponent he should face – Junior Witter.
Back in 2000 Witter came in at late notice to take Zab Judah the distance for the IBF 140lb title, at the same time Hatton was impressively defending Intercontinental titles. Witter learned from the Judah fight and began improving his power by planting his feet more. Before Judah he had only scored four knock outs in 17 fights, he would then go on to stop his next 15 opponents impressively.

years ago when this was the biggest possible all british match up i predicted that they would fight, but only when they are past their peak and no longer champions...

good article but this bit gets on my nerves. it alludes to someone not knowing simple english grammer - fine on a forum but not for a article to be taken seriously

its not "could of" its "could have" or "could've"

is how it should read or even "the fight could have also happened" - thats probably correct

as bad as witter's last effort was, i think he has enough pop to beat hatton and enough guile to avoid hattons gameplan. i dont think we see this fight, hatton doesnt need to risk it really and why would he want to give witter a payday now?

Hatton should stay retired, no point at all. He got plenty of money why risk his health. I do not want to see him fight again. Witter has no reason to quit as he hasn't made £millions.

I'd watch it, but would no way spend 15 quid on the PPV.

    Richard should stay retired tho

Hatton Morales would be an interesting fight, even Hatton-Marquez.

I dont know how much sense it would make for Hatton to fight Witter, from Hattons perspective anyway.

Witter, even at this stage, is still a bad match up for Hatton imo, now given that Witter still has power, that Hattons punch resistance seems to of deteriorated, I dont know how smart it would be for him to face Witter, that is without talking about how he could potentially frustrate Hatton with his unorthodox style.

If its about money, maybe it makes sense, although I anticipate that Hatton could make more money fighting in the U.S.

    They could title it:

    Who's more shot?

    Winner gets to fight Morales.

Witter isn't shot, he was just never much good.

Hatton's probably done, but he wasn't that good either.

I dont think Hatton should fight again he has made a lot of cash, and only ever lost to the very best there is no point.

This means little but over the last few days I've spoken to a few really experienced people of the trade (wont name names) but they're convinced he will.
