Thing is, he can be competitive at a good level, I've no doubts about that But the manner of his last defeat suggested he really doesn't want to do it any more And won't have done him any favours with promoters/TV
^^ The above is true. He had a really good chance to make a splash in America against a good prospect of theirs. Not just the loss but the manner of it was poor. Stepping up might help him, he might be right. But maybe not. Either way he's still one of Britains better fighters right now.
I dunno, when I saw him quit I was just like "ffffffuuuu- witter you failure" but I kind of just shrugged it off when he was talking about his elbow injury, which I guess I'm naive for giving him the benefit of the doubt but I just enjoy watching him box really, his style is awesome but he's getting hit a lot more often. At 147 I see him getting some real tests against his chin (he isn't impossible to put down at 140), and he'll never get to world class in that division. And I was praying for a Malignaggi/Witter matchup. I'd probably bust a nut if that was ever announced.
Maybe with a relative lull in commercial UK boxing (Hatton and Calzaghe now off the scene) it may now be Witters chance to attract a few more fans and make more bucks than he used to. At his age it's going to be a bit of a struggle though. Still, it will be interesting to see how he does at 147. He does appear to be somewhat cruising on an empty heart though.
witter at welter is a great euro and domestic scalp. the domestic scene with a former champion looks brilliant line up
Thats exactly what I first thought:good Think It's a given if Hatton takes that mickey mouse belt against Ndou. He'd knock **** out of 'majic' IMO:yep
I honestly think Witter vs Matty Hatton SHOULD happen, though I'm expecting N'Dou to beat Matthew anyway. A tune-up against Watson would show what level Witter is at whilst giving Watson a chance to shine (unfairly robbed against O'Donnell IMO)
Witter vs Kell Brook would be a great domestic fight and one that would show us how far Brook is going to go. He is pretty much done with the domestic scene. The Jennings fight is no push over but no an hard task either so that leaves Brook ready for Euro title challenges or world rated guys like Witter. The fight could be big domestically and give Brook some sway with the yanks. Plus if Witter has anything left in him ad wins he can still claim to be the best around his weight class on these shores.
I really don't see him competing at 147. Who would bet against him retiring after getting KO'd at the new weight class?
