The Mancunian claims Witter offended him at a BBC sports personality of the year presentation by whispering in his ear "one day" as they walked up to the stage.
A staggered Witter said: "It wasn't even at last year's awards but the one before, as far as I can tell, so it's taken Hatton 18 months to come up with this. I must have really got to him!
"I don't actually remember saying it but I probably did. It might have been the only thing I said to him that night - we don't have full-sentence conversations.
"It's got to be the worst excuse Hatton has come up with yet, and there have been plenty of them, but what I said obviously made a lasting impression."

Hatton knows if he loses to Witter his bubble is well and truly burst. On the other hand he can afford another loss to Mayweather - ' i only lost to an ATG, and that was because my fans booed the anthem and the weferwee hated me and its all about the big challenges for Wicky Atton '

Its quite comical though, nobody has been more obviously ducked since Bowe/Lewis. In fact this is probably worse and more blatant.

Hatton knows if he loses to Witter it will be obvious that Witter was Britain's best 140 pounder all along. It's not a risk he's willing to take.

Whitter fans must feel the same way Cotto fans do, their favorite fighters getting unashamedly ducked, with lame excuses abounding.

It's over Witter has already beaten Hatton as it's clear to anyone who knows boxing Witter is in Hatton's head.

it's not as if he's sitting around twiddling his thumbs waiting for a hatton fight. he's fighting timothy bradley in may on a big, free to air tv channel.

once he's gotten past bradley as he should do he needs to call ricky hatton's ***** ass out live in front of millions and humiliate the little ducker. make it clear to everyone that hatton has to step foot in the ring with the hitter to truely cement his position as top dog in the division, or forever be known as a coward.

Junior Witter interview - total bollocks

WBC junior welterweight champ Junior Witter sees no reason for a rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Ricky Hatton. There have been preliminary talks for a rematch to be held in Wembley next spring. Witter tells The Sun that Mayweather will beat Hatton quicker the second time around. Last december in Las vegas, Mayweather stopped Hatton in the tenth-round of their welterweight bout.

"There was absolutely nothing Ricky did that troubled Floyd during 10 rounds in Vegas. Floyd seemed to be cruising for a lot of it and he had moments where he did very little in a round. But even then Ricky didn't dominate and get on top of him. He just couldn't do anything. Floyd beat him on the inside, he beat him on the outside. He's got better looks and there's no way I can see Ricky beating him," Witter said.

Witter, who defends against Timothy Bradley on May 10, would love the chance to face Mayweather down the line.

"When you get to a certain level in this game, especially when you're talking about fighters like Floyd and myself, once the bell goes it doesn't matter if you're in Timbuktu, the North Pole or America. Floyd's boxed in front of a hostile crowd, he's boxed in front of a positive crowd, so nothing will faze him," Witter said.

"I'd definitely fancy my chances against Floyd and I almost boxed him for the WBC title before he vacated and moved up to welterweight. I've got no problem moving up a weight and it's a fight we've talked about with his people. It's certainly one which could happen in the future."

I understand he's upset, but there are other viable 140 pounders out there he can fight in the mean time.

I wouldn't mind so much if Hatton made up one excuse and stuck with it but there have been several and he seems to rotate them. It's not very convincing.

If this is why he won't fight Witter why did he say a few weeks ago that HBO wouldn't be interested? (btw they were not interested in Lazcano either and that didn't stop him).

Hatton just doesn't fancy the fight and he isn't bright enough to realise that sticking to one excuse is actually more convincing.
