Yes, the man I have met, the man I have talked to and the man I call CHAMP...Junior Witter. It's feels really strange that when I talk to friends and say I know a World Champion boxer and they say 'Oh yeah which one' Junior Witter, they always reply 'WHO?' Now some of these people are not boxing addicts like the rest of us but when your in the same city where this Champion lives...I find that really worrying. Junior has many factors that has people avoiding him:
The Brendon Ingle Factor: The style of this master trainer who developed fighters like Herol Graham, Johnny Nelson, Prince Naseem Hamed and now Junior Witter has had two affects on the boxing world. 1: Champions avoided these fighters like the plague. Stories of Marvin Hagler and Chris Eubank not wanting anything to do with Herol Graham are absolutely true and who can blame them...Ingle's fighters can make you look bad and look foolish.
2: Wasted Talent is another factor with the Ingle camp. I can't think of more skillful boxers in britain that hasn't come through Brendon Ingle's gym. Herol Graham had the magic, Prince Naseem Hamed had the power and now Junior Witter's got the belt...WBC Light-Welterweight Champion. You see the man who's been avoided, the man who can't sell out a sports gym and the man who has bored tv viewers for years...that was until last September when Junior Witter fought like a Champion. Witter destroyed Harris in exciting fashion and the future looked bright and his promoter promised his next fight would be in December against a top american fighter.......promises...promises. Nearly four months later and nothing has happened, it's like the whole Harris victory meant nothing. Sure, since Hatton's defeat against Mayweather Witter's name has come back on the radar but isn't this all old news again? Why hasn't Witter's promotor's sent Junior to the states to make a name over there and get worldwide appeal and to call out the other Light-Welterweight contenders...no it's the same old story of calling out Hatton and praying he's gonna accept the offer. Time is ticking for Witter and I hope the big fights will come along but I get this terrible feeling that despite being a World Champion, in years to come I will look back and say Herol Graham, Johnny Nelson, Prince Naseem Hamed, Ryan Rhodes and Junior Witter had everything you could want in a fighter but never archived there full potential...I hope I'm wrong.
