As there has been a Hattons level of comp thread started i was wondering what people thought about Witters level of comp/ I thought it was great...............
it just seems to me that Witter hasnt either pushed himself enough or probably more likely, his advisors havent done enough about getting him the really big fights. his career seems focused on this fight he didnt get with hatton, and thats sad.
Yes very true i started this thread on a wim, mainly because alot of the flack Hatton is getting in the other thread seems to be off Witters loyalists. Witter in my eyes has always been a wasted talent, he could have been very good when in fact he has basically retired himself from world championship level with his crap performance and subsequent loss to Bradley. Its a shame but as you said he should have concentrated on his own fighting as opposed to what Hatton was doing.
Witter has obviously found it alot harder to get the big fights, he has very few fans. It is not like he has got himself to a level of popularity then decided to take the easy route.
Not very impressed by Witter's competition. Was totally unimpressed by his performance against Zab Judah
Anyone who suggests that Hatton caught some of his opponents "at the right time" should check out Corelys record after Witter, hes 0-5.
fact is witter has not just been avoided by hatton, but by everyone at light welter since he fought zab judah. high risk, no reward describes him perfectly.
What has boring got to do with it? As a boxer that does not make him any less deserving. It takes all kinds of styles in boxing, it would be even more boring if they were all the same or spent a huge portion of the fight hugging. His level of competition in the last few years is pretty good for a one time beltholder. It's certainly one of the better resumes in the 140lb division. Before that, not so much.
Like it or not, Witters style had a major impact on how is career went. Boring showings in big fights stopped him getting the promotional backing/ fanbase for the fights he wanted.
I said it is pretty good in the last few years. Corley (okay, as shot as Castillo), Harris, N'dou, Kotelnik. Not bad at all. But Hatton's is supposed to be the resume of a former p4p rated fighter. If that is how you want to be recognised, if you claim to be well past the stage of fighting the Witter's of this world, we should judge you by those standards. And by those standards it is a very bad resume. As is Witter's.
