that's because just standing up with his own weight is automatically training that.

Wouldn't that mean that with he could actually lift more if he improved his technique then?

Not necessarily, but risk for back injury would be much smaller. The way he lifted the weight legs straight with arched back is going to destroy your back one day. I've done lots of deadlifts in my life personally and watching Tyson's lift almost made me sick and caused physical pain in my back. It is really strange that if a guy on that level does weight training he has never even been taught correct technique to do it.

So correct technique protects from injury but has no real benefit to performance?
You won't be surprised to learn I have never lifted weights seriously.

Terrible form indeed. I wouldn't even call that a deadlift as that requires squatting down with a straight back, to lifting the weight through the legs from the heels while raising yourself up back up to standing posting.

What Tyson did there was a back-arch/bend over stiff dead lift in what we call cheating yourself and running the risk of developing spinal curvature deviations such as kyphosis.

Sadly there are many coaches and trainers who are too star struck or do not know any better to correct form in their athletes whilst training them.

Load lifted doesn't equal transfer to performance. If you lift with better technique you not only decrease your chance for injury but you use the right muscles in the ratio and order you want to use them for athletic movements, increasing transfer to performance. You need to be pretty dumb to not take weights seriously if you're an athlete of any sort. Or just a person really, the health benefits are numerous.

    Absolutely! and Staminakills like this.

Professional boxing isn't professional, these basic things aren't done well and then everybody wants to talk about these so called elite guys taking drugs to improve performance. Eating right and lifting weights properly is going to give a much greater performance boost than any PED could theoretically give.

Well what about for Pro weightlifters, can improper technique ever help them lift as much or more than correct/conventional techniques?

I see lifting weights as unpaid manual labour = no, thanks. For athletes it's different of course.
