Wlad and AJ working out with weights in preparation for their fight

    Compound movements - I didn't recover well. I always pulled up sore which meant less head movement in sparring and in general less energy. So even if I had more power (power was never an issue for me...I had an issue with stamina at 72-80) I couldn't apply it effectively. And I did stick it out with compounds and got blood tests, used natural supplements, less sets but in my journal I was a much worse boxer (not that I was good anyway).

    Punching is a snapping motion. While lifting weights is not like that at all. There is little to no functional carryover.

    I hope he isn't overdoing it with still nearly a month to go. He seems to be quite injury prone in recent years.

    That's not a problem with compound movements then, that's a problem with your periodisation and recovery methods. Everything you do adds to fatigue, you're not meant to get better while you're doing the weights.

    You use your legs to punch, to put force into the ground. Through the kinetic chain it then goes through your trunk and you snap your fist out. The more force you crate with the large proximal muscles the more force at the distal end.
    Weights are never meant to replicate sporting movements, they are meant to build physical capacity. If your legs are attached to the ground you need strong and powerful legs for whatever movement you're doing.
    The word 'functional' means jack ****, it's a fitness buzz word that means nothing.

    Vlad has always used weights, but it has to be done correctly..............it can make you stiff, lots of stretching, Vlad also trains in water which helps keep down injuries..............he is really looking good, he is up for this fight.............he just might win.................I think Joshua is using too much weight, too heavy.......................................will make him stiff. How much did he learn in camp from Vlad? If Joshua has not improfed 100%, he is in for some trouble...........

    I tried a lot of stuff and with high level coaches but you may be right. Could have made mistakes...it does happen :)

    Lifting weights does stretch your muscles, there's been research showing that lifting weights is as effective as stretching for increasing flexibility. The idea that lifting weights makes you stiff is old school and has no basis in reality. Just because you lift some weights and you feel stiff doesn't mean that weights make you stiff, it just means that you did an activity your body isn't conditioned for. If you lift weights through a full range of motion it increases flexibility. If you go for a walk after sitting on a couch for two years you're going to feel stiff and sore the next day. We stiffen up and get sore when we stretch things with tension through a range we aren't used to. That's a sign you need to lift weights more often, not less.

    Everything can always be done better, but it's a fundamental mistake if your strength training is interfering with the quality of your sports training.

    Mr. Olympia is not a world champion..............Holyfield did it the right way. We always stretched after workouts, before also, esp. in kickboxing, even when you run 10.5 miles, you must stretch for get tight. Watch Golovkin stretch..............Stretching is extremely important. When I was in Bowe's camp with Eddie Futch, you did not see much weight lifting, Futch was one of the greatest trainers in boxing history, if not for him Bowe would never have become world champion................................

    Didn't the mr Olympia Lee Haney train Holyfield at weights :)? Both from Atlanta. Or just an internet rumour?

    Deadlifting 250KG (not lbs) at 160lbs (not KG) is a feat very few humans on this planet can achieve without extreme training and dedication over a number of years. Your claim strikes me as a lie, or at best a misunderstanding born of your inability to differentiate between pounds and kilograms. Either that or you hang out with professional powerlifters, in which case you're among the upper percentile of lifters and not drawing from a representative portion of the population. Whichever, it doesn't bolster your point in the slightest.
