The man just can't attack the chops. Straight shots to the gut is just distance control. Ive never seen an orthodox boxer deliver such an effective body attack like this while fighting out of the southpaw stance. Go to 5:20. Thats McCallum esque body shotting right there This content is protected
So basically....if Wlad had thrown a really hard punch that connected and wasn't slipped and/or countered then he might have won. You do read some startling insights on this board, I must say.
True. But you don't think Wlad could dig in a straight right to the body? I was just thinking it would have been an effective shot to throw in that 7th considering Joshua would be concerned with another straight right to the head.
My point was, that while it's true that claims "Wlad never throws body shots" is hyperbole, you had to go back 15 years to find an example of a good one. We've had 4 Presidential elections since then (which in some ways is a testament to his longevity, but I don't think it does much to strengthen your counter-argument regarding body shots).
Wlad was throwing the left hook a lot because he thought AJ would be quite easy to tag with it. That's probably why he was so eager to take the fight. He should've thrown the right hand more. The left hook just isn't there anymore. It looked slow and weak against Fury too. And when he landed it on AJ it barely did anything.
I hear ya. Well I did say that Mercer shot was just one example and he's dug good body shots since then but not many. Anyway everybody knows Wlad is mainly a head hunter and I was really just thinking out loud on imo what would have been good to see Wlad do in that rally that he had.
I had a feeling Joshua was going to be wary of that left hook. Everybody was mentioning how Joshua needs to be careful of it. Hell fighters were sending him messages on YouTube stressing to watch out for it! Lol! I originally said it was "gonna be the 1-2 that knocks Joshua out" Well I was partially wrong
I always thought Wlad may have been more effective on the whole throughout his reign with Emanuel had he thrown more body shots consistently, but that would have lead to opening himself up more than necessary in most instances. Steward always said, sometimes a fighter only needs to do 1 or 2 things exceptionally well to be successful, and with Wladimir, this was definitely true.
I'm with you on that one. You can't rewrite a fight in hindsight. He could have gone to the body or gone for the uppercut, and still lost. Wlad did some lovely boxing, a great performance. Can't take that away from him because he lost.
Man Steward was a good guy and awesome trainer. Him and Wladimir were a dynamite team. They had great chemistry. Manny is missed big time.
It's crazy how the effectiveness of his left hook has declined. In the possible rematch he'd better jab and throw more right hands.
