Best way meaning for the fighter AND the division. Most other atgs leave long after they are prime, Ali, Holyfield, Tyson. Sad way to go out for them and doesn't help the division too much because they are so far past prime and lose to so many fighters and fighters of such low quality. Then there is Lewis, who left on top, but left in a very unsatisfying way, with unresolved questions about him and Vitali, and therefore left it VERY hard for the next generation to establish themselves as ATGs.

Here, Wlad helps the division, he loses in an all time great fight and establishes a new champ with the makings of an atg resume from having beaten him. He helps himself because he nearly beat the guy who, by beating him, established himself as a likely atg. It's the perfect combination imo of helping both his own resume and the division

Really good question and honestly can't think of any HW (in modern era any way) going out in better fashion. Would have been even better if he'd got a fight with Wilder and slapped him about the place - but can't have everything.

I would say George Foreman is up there too. He was absolutely robbed against Briggs who ended up being a good fighter. Wlad still beats every HW out there minus Joshua. He had a legendary career.

Sad he can't give us a farewell fight. He'd beat Parker easily and probably Wilder. Joshua is a 50-50 war which maybe he didn't want to risk his health in.

So Wlad going out on two losses is better than Lewis going out on two victories against Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko??
    LOL

Lewis and marcianos exit was better for them. Wlad's exit was better for the division, because it gave the next generation (Fury, AJ) a quality win to build from.

Doesn't make any sense. Lewis and Marciano retired off wins against ATGs. Their exit from the sport was better.

Ok but clearly Tyson was a complete shadow of his former self and Vitali had once of the worst cuts you'll see (and was winning). And also remember the question "Best way meaning for the fighter AND the division". I think Lewis is above Wlad in ATG rankings but Wlad carried the HW divison in a way Lewis didn't.

Yes, it was better for them, I'm not arguing that.

I was arguing that while it was better for them personally, it didn't help the division, because it left the next generation having to rebuild from nothing. But Wlad left two opponents who have a win over a near prime version of him. They will consequently have an easier time making an atg resume, and make for a more exciting hw division while they are doing it.

Thats because Vitali wasn't good enough to beat the ageing Champion.

Joshua beating Wlad is in line with history. It wasn't good for Holmes getting stopped by Tyson was it?
Good for Tyson yes. Good for Wlad and Larry , no.

The fact that you said Lennox (who went out with a KO win in a war that was just
as good as the Wlad/Joshua fight, and against the guy that took over after he left), went out in an unsatisfying way proves your not being subjective in your assessment.

In terms of final fight Tyson Fury went out in a better way and he blew the division wide open

edit: just saw you put ATG in the title! haha

The best way to retire is to retire undefeated. Actually, that's a great temptation that's keeping Fury from returning.
