But one could say the same thing about Ibragimov, who showed good mobility against Briggs. The reason Chagaev and Ibragimov looked mobile was because Briggs and Valuev are extremely slow, not because they're so mobile. Also, even if Chagaev can avoid the jab and get on the inside, Wladimir will just clinch him to death, like he does to anyone who gets on the inside.
Chagaev win over Valuev is overrated. Valuev had a couple of close fights (some of them should be loses) against Ruiz, Donald or ancient Holyfield. Chagaev was just the lucky one who didn't get robbed. BTW, it was more than 2 years ago. From this time, Chagaev wasn't too active (two fights, I admit haven't seen the last, but as mentioned he wasn't too inspiring against Skelton). If Wlad fights as he did against Ibragimov, I guess Chagaev can survive the distance. What bothers me more is the question how many other similar defenses we'll have to survive.
Good, because if so, I'd not only have to keep HBO off my TV, I'd have to start calling around to friends and telling them to cancel too.
This fight is completely uninteresting. Wladimir has the useful combination of body muscle, body fat, athleticism and he has the technical ability so there's nothing else to be told... We're talking about the Heavies here, Chagaev cannot slip, block or duck undearneath the jab and this is a most damaging jab. Ask Brewster, Tony T and Rahman what that jab does to you and Ruslan Chagaev is also wide open for a right hand right down the pipe so... IT CANNOT LAST 12 ROUNDS unless Ruslan runs away from the fight.
Doesn't matter if they think it's going to be exciting or not. A) You never know if a fight is going to be a snoozer or not until it starts. B) This is the first real unification since Lewis Holy, Wlad will holt three titles then (unless the WBA screws it up) C) If the #1 HW fights for another title, and the Ring title, you better show if you claim to be the #1 boxing channel. Many of Holmes' fights were also hardly exciting, yet they didn't debate before every fight if they were going to show it, they just aired it.
When Holmes was fighting people still cared about who the heavyweight champion of the world was. Today, not so much. While it's true that the fight may turn out to be exciting, the evidence does not point to that.
hmm... who is a more meaningful fight in 2009, Haye or Chagaev - Chagaev, belts+belts=unification, no brainer. hmm... where would I rather have broadcast my fight, subscription based HBO or basic cable ESPN - ESPN, bigger exposure, no brainer. Now he just has to not stink up the place like he did against Ibragimov and he's all set. looks like both Haye and HBO just made themselves irrelevant in one swift bold move.
HBO really needs to air the fight, there's already a date ready for the fight and it's an even bigger fight than the Haye fight.
Ring has chagaev #3, an if it was not for vitali, he would be #2,,,what else can you ask for, arreola is not even in the top 5, he is #7, an HBO love to use the ring as a guide,...I think there missing out on a great fight, with no doubt a great KO
I think this is a better fight than Haye. I would pick Chagaev to beat Haye. I think Haye just saved his career. One thing I know is that a left hook will be the KO factor if it happens. Though I don't think it will be Chagaev. And you people who keep talking about Walds chin really need to read up on Hep. C and review both his and Hollyfileds career (when Holly was known to have Hep. C) he got up from 3 knock downs to win a fight. Does that not say he has heart? Hell WM Marquez only had a draw after that but you call him a warrior.
