There were so many occasion where he starts throwing a punch and it turns into a grab. That's because he's afraid of getting hit. So instead of follow through with the punch, he pulls back and tries to grab at even the slightest chance of getting countered.

He doesn't know how to fight another way. It's part of his muscle memory now. I think Steward took Wlad to the extreme when it comes to fighting cautious. In many ways, because of his hit and grab style, he lost a bit of power in his punches because he never fully commits to a punch.

I have said that post Corrie Sanders, Wlad is deathly afraid of being countered with a punch he potentially cannot see. Certainly was a factor.
