Before the fight I felt Haye was a bit of a thug, especially after he had a crewmember harassing Emmanuel Steward. At some point during the fight, when I over an over again saw him desperately charging in with his completly nullified Hayemakers, I almost started to feel sorry for him.

What surprised me after the fight was Wlads endless complaining about Hayes performance. "Wlad defeated Haye onesided and comfortable" is what the headlines in newspaper och webbpages will tell us. But my impression from the fight was that Wlad had ha hard time in there, because he is a fast and sharp punsher and has never had struggled so hard to connect with his opponent. Compare with Chris Byrd who was considered elusive and was completly trashed.

I believe Wlads critisism against Haye after the fight to a certain extent is to hide how hard he struggled to win, and I dont think he will ever agree to face Haye again. To be honest, I dont think he should either. Wlad edged it thanks to him having very good speed and reflexes himself, and I think a past prime Wlad would lose against Haye.

    Any thoughts on the subject?

I don't quite understand what you mean by your thread title. Wlad clearly admitted in the post fight interview that he had a hard time hitting Haye. :huh

    Sorry then.
You would be surprised how many English people cannot spell it either.

Watch Adam Booth's interview. He said Wlad had a pretty easy night.

Wlad didn't "edge" it. He won easily. Haye landed like 4 power punches in the whole fight.

But Haye did make it difficult with some good defense that gave Wlad problems in finding his right hand.

Adam Booth was going ballistic at the ref and Wlads corner at the end. I watched the HBO broadcast last night and Wlad hardly landed a punch in the 1st 6 rounds. Lampley and Merchant were disgraceful. Roy Jones was the only one who seemed to understand ambush fighting

I agree with you. Wlad had a pretty hard time. But you have to see it in the whole picture. Usually Wlad makes easy work out of his opponents. I think the last time he lost a round, just a single round in a fight, was back in 2005 against Sam Peter. So yes, he had to work much harder in this fight then in his other title defenses.
Also to consider is, that Wlad is somewhat scared of getting hit, more than other boxers. This is why he looked so uncomfortable against Haye (this part of Hayes plan did work out partly). But he managed that kind of pressure, and I think in a rematch Wlad would do bettter, because he know knows he can handle Haye in the ring. His problem is the he will not getting much better because of his age, with 35 it starts to go down somewhat.

Vitaly would look better against Haye, because Vitaly will risk to get hit by a few shots, in order to KO Haye.

The first half of the fight, or the first 4 - 5 rounds, the rounds were quite close and there was a lot of tension, Haye was still possibly in the fight even though Wlad was beating him.

The second half, it really took its toll on Haye, and though he remained elusive, Wlad BOSSED the action, and Haye's counter attacks were embarrassingly bad.
Haye did a lot of falling over and running away.

Wlad won it by wide scores. I reckon 117-110, and that includes a point taken away from Wlad.

To say "Wlad edged it" is crazy talk.

And, no, Haye won't ever climb into the ring with Wlad again. If he does, he gets KO'd.
    Haye's confidence has been destroyed.

I think Haye "tried" early but gave up due to frustration. Wald is a cool customer. He stuck to the game plan, implemented it and cause all kinds of problems for David in generating anything meaningful.

Haye was too cautious knowing Wald had the power to get the KO, but failed to take the necessary risks to touch Walds chin in order to get the "W" the only way he could, Which was by KO.

The toe could have been a factor but I doubt it. It was moreso David's inability to implement the correct strategy to take away Walds Jab and height. Davide didn't use much angles, nor did he chop Wald down by investing early in body work.

Wald on the other hand did what Wald does perfectly although boring...he worked the jab from jump, controlled range and dictated the pace of the fight. Haye didn't offer up any resistance and lost a one sided fight. It wasn't a beating...but it was dominant.

Wladimir did have a much harder time in this fight than what he usually does, but only because he was worried about the return punches if he were to let his hands go. It wasn't that Haye was landing punches on him all night and he was just barely winning the rounds. I have heard people talk about the punch Haye landed in the twelvth round, it was a good punch but it didn't look to me like Wladimir was stunned by it at all.

In a way, yeah. But as I see it, Wlad used shorter shots with less power than he usually does. He connected with several jabs, and some right shots. They where crisp, but he did not load them up like he usually does. In recent times, I dont think anyone has tested Wlads boxing abillity as hard as Haye did.

Booth said that huge 3 punch combo Wlad landed in the 5th seemed to have impressed Haye thoroughly psychologically and threw him off for many rounds. After that, Haye stopped listening to his instructions and went into survival mode. Check the recent Sky interview.
