Many people tend to dislike genuis. Even Ali wasn't universally loved for a long while. Many fellow Canadians hated Wayne Gretzky for his decade in the sun. They criticized every thing..he was weak, he needed a supporting cast of tough guys, he was wait for it... a ***... he was all kinds of things to small minded little people. Much like the stupidity expressed by many on this forum. Wlad absolutely dominated Brew from beginning to end. He even won the stare down. Brew looked like a man who knew somnething unusual happened the first fight something that wouldn't likely come around again. Who beats Wlad today? No one comes close. Next time they meet the limited Peter gets knocked out. Wlad is head and shoulders above and getting better. He is only 31. He is so gifted that the feeble minded little people can't even grasp it. Folks can continue to play the what if games and delight in his occasional mistakes but man..this guy has got something special and only a blind man can't see it. Go ahead and tear him down but in 5 years when his career is done and 20 years later when historians take the tally... I will bet the farm that Wlad makes the grade as one of the greats. All he needs to do is continue to work, learn and follow his path. Hopefully a true foil comes on the scene so he can continue to be truly tested. What a boxer! I bet Chris Bird would agree with me.
Great post bro...The truth is,we've always known that this kid had something special. He's always had his offensive abilities...He's just gotten smarter with it.He's much more rounded as a fighter now than he was 4yrs ago...And he keeps himself in great shape.A beautiful physical speciman. He has his weakness like every other great fighter that ever stepped in the ring. He's evolved his offensive to cover for thosse shortcomings.A sign of a great fighter. To want to learn, develop yourself is great trait. This kid has done just that. He looked unbeatable last night.Great jabbing.Showed beautiful movement he had'nt shown before.Brewster was outmatched from the start and he knew it. I would still love to see him against somebody bigger than Brewster.Somebody closer to his own size and reach.he looked like he was not even sweating taking care of Brewster.Sam Peter better forget about this kid. He'll slice and dice him next time. But yeah, great fighter.
He destroyed Byrd twice, who was (along with Vitali and Wlad) the best fighter of the post-Lewis era. I would say that this counts as a signature win. Aside from that, his sheer volume is starting to pick up considerably. He didn't beat a great version of Brewster, but his succession of Peter-Byrd-Brock-Austin-Brewster is better than anything the other champs can muster at the moment. Chagaev comes close with his Virchis-Ruiz-Valuev string, but all of these fights were close. Wlad isn't an ATG yet, but if he unifies he most certainly will be.
Tyson beat Holmes when big Larry was way past his prime...I'd bet on a prime Holmes to school Tyson. Holmes-Wlad would be a great match up. It amazes me that Tyson gets such a free pass based on his record of beating the hell out of sub-par fighters and a scared light heavy. His decline is explained away leaving one to wonder just how good was the guy? Perhaps the best midget heavy since Tommy Burns. Wlad is coming into his own..just watch him.
This content is protected naming ike as if he was a bum...dude was on his way to being a SERIOUS heavyweight...
I agree that Wlad is doing well these days and is a great heavy of this era and that's also something i'd like to point out. You have really to judge a fighter by his era and the opposition he has in front of him. He can only fight the guys that are around these days. Maybe in the U.S. they should put boxing back in the highschools and colleges or the same old thing is going to happen and that being all the prospects get taken under the wing of football and basketball.
Tyson beat Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Razor Ruddock twice, Tony Tucker, Pinklon Thomas, and Tony Tubbs. Throw in Carl Williams, Bonecrusher Smith, Frank Bruno twice, and Trevor Berbick and you have a resume that is clearly superior to Wlads. Holmes beat Tim Witherspoon, Gerry Cooney, Ken Norton, Ray Mercer, Carl Williams, Earnie Shavers, Bonecrusher Smith, and Mike Weaver. Plus Berbick, Snipes, Spinks, and Leroy Jones were good fighters. This resume has more depth than Wlads and the best fighters on it are better than the best fighters on Wlads. The sheer number of good and very good fighters here make up for not beating an in prime great fighter.
:nut   It was easier to show the little faces to talk abou all the different things that just run though my mind when i read that post.
