It is understandable. No one wants to get pizza face and then KOed in 12. Actually, that was the plan for Haye but others get KOed too. So it is hard to blame Wladimir's opponents for lack of deisre to sign a contract to fight him.
There are some guys that have been given the oppurtunity and have pussied out, that's true enough. But a couple of guys do not represent a whole division or even the top 10 for that matter, so don't generalize just because it floats your boat to do so. You make it sound as though everyone relevant has been given the oppurtunity and they have all backed out and that's not true.
Vitali and Vlad are so good that top ten heavyweights are running and hiding. Klitschkos are so good that the put fear into the hearts of their opponents. Povetkin and Haye got knocked out before they got into the ring! Klitschkos are the best heavyweights in boxing history and would dominate in any era. I have no doubt.
Klitschkos are fighting all their mandatories, cleaning out the division. Bring them on one at a time.
They do not but those 3 are at the top of the division. It is expected that guys at number 9 or 10 would be willing to take a fight with KlitschKOs. They do not have other choise, less to lose, etc. They should be happy if offered.
The current situation @HW is pretty dismal. But I'm expecting things to straighten out and speed up somewhat once Vitali retires and Haye trips over Chagaev. Hopefully a vacant WBC belt will be picked up by someone willing to participate in a unification fight with Wlad, ideally it would be Adamek. With Wlad, Adamek and Chagaeve being the beltholders, the possibility of an undisputed championship will move a few steps closer.
True. As long as Sauerland has their hands on the WBA belt there will never be a unification fight because they are unwilling to send their guys Povetkin, Valuev or Haye into a risky fight without options on the winner for Sauerland.
I don't disagree with your post in itself, Haye and Povetkin are running from Wlad, BUT this also shows how bad the state of the HW division is. The two most worthy contenders, Haye and Povetkin, don't even want to challenge the champ - meaning they simply don't have the heart of a great fighter, let alone the heart of a champ. Do you think such a situation could've happened in any other era in boxing? I don't. In any other era, every top ten fighter would have challenged Wlad for the belts in a heartbeat if he had got the chance - and nearly all the top ten fighters would have been deserving of a title-shot too. Now I don't doubt that there are enough HWs out there that would immediatly take a fight with a Klitschko (if only for the payday), but then they're either not deserving of a title-shot (like Briggs), or they've already been beaten (Chambers, Chagaev, Arreola...). Deserving challengers like Povetkin and Haye don't take the 'risk' of a title-shot, nor does Valuev (who is not deserving btw). I'm hoping for Adamek to make an impact (and I never thought I would have to write that...)
Except maybe for the early 90s (Bowe avoiding Lewis) I completely agree. Imagine Wlad would have made that "I'm calling you out" video to any other Top 3 boxer in the past 50 years. The fight would have happened in a heartbeat. Heck if Ali had been challenged like that he would gather 100 reporters, fly down to Wlad's house, setup a ring on the street outside of Wlad's mansion and ask him to come out and fight him right away. What has Haye done after Wlad's challenge? He kept himself out of the public while he couldn't give enough TV and newspaper interviews in all those years before being called out. This is unheard of in boxing.
Agreed, they will say boxing is a bus. and that they made a good bus. move but all in all they are a buncha candy asses these days with no heart.
