That Lewis defeat was the best thing that ever happened for Vitali's career. Everyone on earth knows that. So... I sure as hell don't see how that was devastating. I was actually pointing out the fact that Lewis had just became the recognized champ when he was 34 years old... so it isn't as if he peaked out a decade before he fought Vitali. Lewis matured into his best form late in his career, just as Wlad is doing now. A lot of big men seem to follow this trend. Nobody was acting like Lewis was over the hill before he fought Vitali.
There was no evidence to even suggest he was over the hill before the Vitali fight. After the fight, there was plenty.Agree?
Which is exactly why one could argue that it was Vitali that made Lewis look that way.:yep You just admitted yourself there was no evidence to even suggest that Lewis was over the hill before he fought Vitali. So, I can't even see how you could argue that all of the sudden he was. When someone that you are used to seeing dominate fights is being beat by someone, they obviously aren't going to look like they normally do. That doesn't mean that they are shot, over the hill, ect.... it just means that their opponent is making them look that way.
In reality,he was never being beat. The judges gave Vitali different rounds didn't they?Vitali was 4-2 up on the cards which is all well and good but whilst he was winning rounds,he was being beaten beyond a fit state. I didn't say he was shot,I just said there was evidence to suggest he was past prime.
i can answer that one. lewis was only 7 pounds heavier than when he fought tyson. he looked pretty normal weight in that fight, yes? therefore you can hardly say he was a blubberguts with an extra 7 pounds. especially when he said himself (or was it steward?) that he wanted some extra muscle to handle the larger man. also 7 pounds on a 6'5 heavyweight with a solid long frame is hardly a big difference. as for looking gassed, this comes up often in any hard fight regardless of weightclass or fighter. if you get nailed hard and pummeled (which lewis was in the 2nd round), and by a big hitter no less, then your bound to be tired a lot of people think just moving around the ring and throwing punches is how you gas. but you could stand in center ring, throwing no punches and still be gassed if you get the **** beat out of you. absorbing shots and wrestling with a heavy opponent saps anyones energy. look at vitali. he was tired too. normally he is quite fit but why was he also tired? because they were both absorbing huuuge power shots. however having said all that i will say i dont think lewis was in 100% prime, but he was certainly not past prime or shot. he was leaving his prime but certainly still roughly in there. and as for vitali i think he was entering his prime, and the lost of 3-4 years were tragic because i believe if it wasn't for his chronic injuries he would have been even more of a monster after the lewis fight. i sometimes wonder if he had a few years off in his late twenties to heal up those longtime injuries. would he have fared beteter against lewis then? who knows.
7lbs didn't make the difference but LL preparation clearly wasn't what it might have been and it showed.BTW,I didn't suggest he'd become obese either. However,he was the heaviest he had ever been and heavier than he was for the first Rahman fight.Regardless,he won comfortably
I didn't change the subject, you said Lewis wasn't "the recognised champiion until he was 34" and I corrected you, that's all.
just read the deals done and it's all being finalized and they hope to make the official announcement next week
