Wlad is a bad business man when it comes to making fights. He recently requested the WBC (I think) to face the winner of Arreola vs Stiverne even though Deontay Wilder is the mandatory. If Wlad was smart he would ask the WBC for the winner (hopefully wilder) of Stiverne vs Wilder. If he was able to secure a match with wilder after T/KO'ing Stiverne it would be a HUGE match for the sport of boxing. Exactly what everyone in the sport has been waiting for for a long time.. A big strong american that looks dangerous to take out wladamir. The only question is where do you have the fight.
Huh? So....fight the winner of Stiverne -Wilder? And what happens if that is Stiverne? YOu don't get Wilder. Why not fight Stiverne and then Wilder. It's not like he has a lot of quality options.
Las Vegas for sure Wilder is getting huge attention an a lot of hype, and given the resurging Russophobia/mini Cold War (despite the fact tha Vlad is Ukrainian, bu 99% of Americans think he's a Russian) this soul be a huuuuge fight IF marketed correctly
that is still a higher anticipated fight than fighting stiverne straight away. I'm pretty sure the consensus was that Stiverne would win today vs Arreola. A win vs Wilder for Stiverne would mean much more than this Arreola win. It would grow the buzz way more than fighting stiverne right now.
Wlad was recently listed in the top 40 highest paid athletes in the world. That's not from being a bad business man :nono
But at this point, there are 2 "undefeated" contenders to market. They fight each other, you lose a potential future fight. This fight can already be billed as a true test, and far outstrip Wlad's recent run of opponents. Wilder can continue his ascent, take on a legit opponent or 2, hopefully come out of it with his viability intact, and be the opponent in 2 or 3 fights. It's simple math to me.......2 big fights are better than 1. Fighting Stiverne after having beaten Wilder isn't all that much more intriguing than Stiverne right now. Wilder is largely unproven.
Vlad can sell 65,000 tickets in Switzerland, plus TV rights, etc., with Wilder he could also get USTV. In America you can't get 65,000 fans at ringside...........
Wlad realizes Stiverne could knock out Wilder, destroying Wlad's potnetial payday on US TV. The smart thing for Wlad would be to fight Stiverne, take his belt, then defend against mandatory challenger Wilder. Obviously this isn't going to happen because Stiverne is managed by Don King.
