With today's modern training and nutrition the old time greats would all be a foot taller and have 100 extra lbs of lean muscle and run sub 2hr 30min marathons.

    It's irrefutable!!!

    Many thanks.

But if you want to read outstanding threads, with extremely knowledgeable posters, then head over to the classic section.

I go in there frequently to get educated.

There's guys in there who have real life accounts of old fights and fighters, from as far back as the 40's.

Beeing a defensive counterpuncher is not equal to beeing mentally weak. When David Haye fought Wladimir Klitschko he stood in front of him with his hands down and stuck out his face. This was a taunt supposed to make Wlad go wild and open himself up to counters. Haye also tried to rush Wlad the same way Corrie Sanders did. These attempts lasted into the 12th round and if it wasn't for Wlads own defense the big Ukrainian would have been knocked out just like the majority of Hayes opponents. When a boxer mentally folds, this is not what it looks like. Neither did Haye fold against Nikolai Valuev. In fact, he executed his gameplan calmly and was rewarded with the win and the belt.
Derek Chisora tried to take the fight to Haye, who dealt with the situation by loading up his shots with all of his weight behind them, even though it meant beeing hit in the process:

If you move into an exchange with Haye as beeing the smaller guy with the weaker punch, it will be tested how firm your head is attached to the rest of your body.

Ali would not stop Sam Peter but he would outbox him. But anyone trying to take the prime version of Sam head on is in for a tough evening, and better be able to compete when it comes to power and durability. That also goes for an ATG like Joe Frazier. No mather how skilled you are as a pressure fighter, there are some things you cant make up for.

Sam Peter is/was a unathletic bum. What was his best win?
And was it a real good win? I doubt it.

Helenius knocked him out. This Helenius couldn't knock
    the 37-19-0 bum Sprott out.
Ali would ko this loser Peter easily.
Sam Peter the powerful ko king...****ing brainwash.
His only decent ko win was the 39 years old glass-chinned Maskaev. (Nagy A. a total bum. destroyed Maskaev in the
    first round).
Big shame the unathletic Peter could knock wladimir klitschko
    down.
Maybe Ali wasn't a hard puncher but his Foreman ko win is
better than w. klitoris' full carrier.

Just an example how stupid you are :
Trust in me idiota klittard brainwasher Lewis hasn't 70%+ power
ko ratio !Just an idiota uses this ko percentage ****s without
    other factors.
Lewis' McCall,Mason,v. klitoris ,Chanet ko are nothing to do
with the punching power or skill.

    AnotherFan,

    I respect your opinion.

But I believe Haye is mentally weak.

The Valuev fight and the one with Wlad told me that.

We had to listen to all of his talk, and then he didn't commit himself, and used his toe as an excuse.

I don't remember him even trying to throw a single body shot.

He blamed his toe, yet all he was doing was swinging wildly, instead of trying to change his tactics.

The Valuev fight was truly awful.

He had the speed and skills to have beaten a guy like that with absolute ease.

An ancient Holyfield performed better, and many people think he was robbed of a victory.

Stop using boxrec to find arguments. It's too easy to see through. Considering Sam Peter he went downhill after his fight with Wlad. Up to that point he showed up in shape and was unaffected by any assult from his opponents. He was clearly a very strong and tough fighter. As I've stated, Ali would outbox Sam Peter but not KO him.

You are entitled to your opinion, I merely point out that you've spotted the wrong weakness. David Hayes boxing technique is flawed. He fought with the same style that always has produced flashy knock out wins in the past, but this time around it made him look stupid instead.

Many people often thinks this or that fighter was robbed of a victory. What I think is that it's far out to compare a win with a loss. Holyfield engaged which gave the judges a chance to mess up, Haye nullified that possibility with his potshot tactics.

But yeah, it was awful to watch.
