Wlad is the only European fighter in history to know how to cut the ring off . . .

I wasn't aware of this, but apparently no other European fighters have EVER been able to learn how to do this. I guess it was just too advanced for them and could only be grasped by Asians and Americans (and Wlad).

Anyway, thanks to Jisi for this piece of information:

    Please discuss

I do not say in boxing history.

I say today. The most european boxers where train by Ex-DDR-Coaches or Coaches from Amateur-boxing with less professional experience.

    This is a huge difference.

Wlad won olympic gold in 1996 than he turned pro.

Unfortunaly Wlad trains most of the time until 2004 with the Ex-DDR-Coach Sdunek. In 2004 he changes his team and Steward comes in.

But Emanuel Steward teaches him techniques from "real" professional boxing. With Steward Wlad turned into a well rounded, better balanced and better fighter in all things.

Correct me if im wrong, but wasnt Ricky Hatton pretty decent at cutting off the ring...Havent seen too many of his fights to be honest, but i thought i have heard him being pretty good at that.

P.S. Latinos are masters at cutting off the ring! :good

To learn is very important but you need a teacher! And Wlad findes this teacher in Emanuel Steward, one of the greatest trainers in boxing history. This time i say history.:hi:

Hatton was quite good at cutting off the ring, helped by his surprisingly fast footwork.

    Nope.

So far Wlad is only fighter from Europe, who has been able to master that.

Wlad doesn't really cut the ring off much. He has no need to because everyone he picks to fight stands right in front of him. In fact, I'd say that Wlad is poor at cutting off the ring. Wlad works in straight lines, does not really move laterally, which are the basics of cutting off.

Vitali is better at angles then Wlad is.

What Wlad is excellent at doing is using the stiff arm, taking a step backwards, baiting his opponent to come forward and be hit with a his long jab and/or then clinched.

Wlad is also the only European fighter to ever master six-foot-sixedness.

I've included your full quote in my post. You didn't mean just today, otherwise you wouldn't have said 'no European boxer EVER learned to cut the ring off', would you.

Your love for Wlad knows no bounds and you're pound for pound one of the biggest fanboys on the forum - of course you meant what you said.

Wlad is much better than Vitali. He is one of the talentest Heavyweights of all the time. Unfortunaly he works with Sdunek at the beginning of his career and this man nearly ruins his career.

With Emanuel Steward Wlad can show his whole talent, he works on ringgeneralship and all the important things to make no false.

Sine 2004 Wlad improved as a fighter in the ring.

Wlad is 6"6, it would be embarassing if he couldn't cut the ring off.

Sorry but English is not my first language. I mean today not history!

Before the nineteens it was not a big deal if a fighter in germany wants to work with an american coach. It was absolut normal. Look at the past, Max Schmeling goes to America and worked with such coaches.

Much better? I'd favour Vitali over Wlad any day of the week.

Vitali is a fighter, Wlad is not (I still like Wlad though).
