Wlad is WAY too tentative

  1. He could've KOed Chambers in Round 2. But Steward tells him to throw MORE jabs when jabs are already literally 90% of his punch output?

He was hurting Chambers with every straight right, even when they weren't landing cleanly. And when he'd see Chambers was clearly hurt, he didn't attack. Sometimes he didn't even follow up at all.

His left hook and straight right are ****ing vicious. They're quick, accurate and powerful, but he throws them so unbelievably sparingly. He really needs to let his hands go, there's no reason he should let these out of shape, pathetic heavyweights last as long as they do.

That said - that KO was brutal, and the fight wasn't TOO bad.

No doubt he could have been more aggressive, but he's defended his belt/s for years now using the same strategy, and its really up to the opponents to force him to change his game

I was getting frustrated by the end of that fight though, I'm glad Stewart had a go at him

It's called boxing. You act like what he is doing isn't working or something.

  5. I absolutely agree with you here. Opponents are not attacking him at all, but that's because the HW division is full of really poor fighters.

When Wlad is clearly outclassing a guy, it's ok to open up a little bit. Steward waited until round 6 or 7 before he told Wlad to start throwing the left hook.

  6. Of course it's working, but I want to see him really demonstrate his dominance in the ring instead of just in his record.

Wlad's strategy is a bit too passive but fighters aren't pressing at him, what do you want him to do? Change up everything he does to make it a fight he doesn't want?

I think what fans should focus on is that in the last 2 rounds Wlad was pressing heavily for the KO. Something he did not really do before.

Right. He was tentative, but he changed, took Stewards ass chewing to heart, and look what he got accomplished............

And yet some don't emphasize that, when that, the end result and CHANGE he made in aggressivenes, is what you should focus on. :good

Klitschko waited until the last two rounds to go to the body and throw some right hooks and uppercuts. He had a dead man in front of him in the middle rounds. If he had fought from the beginning like in the last two rounds, Chambers wouldn't have seen the second half of the fight.

Watching that fight i just couldn't grasp why he didn't open up more. It's not like Chambers could hurt him, or even attempted to. Just launch those shots. Left hook-straight right worked like a charm. He could have ended the fight just with those punches pretty much from the 2nd round on. Instead, he worked that jab (a strong jab, not one that knocks guys out though) and rarely followed up on it. Even when Eddie was visibly hurt, he was more afraid of getting hit than he was looking to get Chambers out of there. Man, there are 50.000 people in the stands. All have paid to see you. Entertain them. Knock him out.

The first few rounds Eddie was strong, he was sitting back waiting to launch a counter. You could see what he was trying to do. You could tell by the way he wrestled in clinches how strong he was.. but in the middle rounds, he lost that strength.

I thought Wlad fought a good fight, and got the KO. We'd all love to see him go balls out from the opening bell, but that's not Wlad.. not anymore. He can dominate doing what he does.. and that's fine by me.

    I enjoyed the fight.

In the last couple of years Klitschko opponents have entered the ring scared, similar to guys who fought a prime Tyson. It seems to me that their grandiose ring enterance are as much to put on an event as they are to make the opponent nervous. None of their opponents have fought in front of 50,000 fans before (actually not many fighters period), but its a days work for the K bros. That must be a huge psychological disadvantage

That way i see it, on the one hand Wlad is very impressive. He dominates soiid heavyweight contenders with very little difficulty. On the other hand, even his trainer gets annoyed that he doesn't just finish the fight. Give something back to the fans.
