This is a fight that always stirs up heated debates on the general forum... Those who say Klitschko point to his height advantage, his jab and how it would work against Larry, and his right hand - a punch Larry was decked a few times by. Those who say Holmes point to his superior speed, reach, his quicker jab, and his skill level. They also add that Larry had the chin and the heart to stand up to some big Klitschko bombs. I'm one of those people who would pick Holmes by decision or late TKO in a competitive, exciting fight. Larry's combination of timing, speed, and movement would be key here in my opinion. I think his jab would beat the more robotic Wladimir to the punch and keep him off balance. I think his movement would give Wladimir problems. I see Larry landing the cleaner shots and as the fight goes on, getting better and better. He may hit the canvas due to a right from Wladimir, but Larry would get right back up and continue to fight.
Holmes TKO13. Holmes's jab would disrupt Wlad's robotic rythem. Holmes would out box Wlad and give him a thorough beat down. A discouraged and battered Wlad is saved by the ref in th 13th.
Some people who back Klitschko in this fight, saying it's a stylistic nightmare for Larry also add that Klitschko doesn't struggle against boxers. They point to his wins over Chris Byrd, Jameel McCline, and Calvin Brock. Let me just be the first to say neither of those fighters are anywhere near a prime Larry Holmes.
I went with a late TKO for Holmes.. Wlad is a little stiff, and would get lost in Holmes jab, speed, and rhythm.. Although i see Holmes getting decked by a right maybe once or twice through 1-6..
, no doubt. I almost wish I hadn't mentioned Wlad in the classic forum section. God knows he never has deserved it.
I wouldnt consider Holmes's power anything below average, at least.. He had a great cross, and a good left hook, plus after he wore people down with that jab, anything could take them out... When he wanted to punch, he could punch..
I see those eyes are getting the best of you, again. I guess you feel Holmes couldn't take advantage of a china chin?
Holmes outjabs him, starts landing big right hands in the middle rounds, and puts him ont he canvas on the way to winning a comfortable decison. Wladdy still has time to improve his stock, but Larry is legend. I remember when he didn't get respect, and I am glad a new generation of fan has embraced him.
Finally an old(ish) vs new thread not insulting to the modern generation of fighters. I'd give the edge to Holmes.
I don't really dare saying this but i agree with you. Holmes has been susceptible to right hands throughout his entire career and Wlad has one of the best right hands of the last thirty years: fast, long and hard. Bad stylistic matchup for Holmes. I do give Holmes a good shot, but if i had to make a choice, i choose Wlad. To make a bold analogy, Wlad is like Norton and Shavers combined, while keeping the suspect chin of both and adding 20lbs in natural weight and 3 inches in height. If you lack to power to take him out, that has trouble written all over it.
